I have never used nor had a shave with a straight razor yet I find it appealing. Something nostalgic about it. I wanted to buy one but the prices I've seen are too rich for my blood, for something I may only use once (having never used one). I seen some in Bokers catalog but dang, If I was a professional barber I could see spending that for a tool of the trade.
So my question is can I get a good straight razor for under a hundred dollars preferably fifty bucks, because while it has my interest, I don't know that it would hold my interest. Also how likely are you to cut yourself using one for the first time. Thanks for any input.

Try looking over on straightrazorplace.com. They sometimes have straights for sale that are reasonably priced and you'll know that if you buy one from a member that it'll be a good one.

Contact Larry Andro at http://whippeddog.com/ , he specializes in shave ready lower priced straight razors. For roughly $30 bucks including shipping, you can tryyour hand(and throat!) at straight razor shaving. They may not be the prettiest razors, but Larry is supposed to be an excellent honemeister.
