Hello All,

Have a bit of a strange question...I have a Kelty pack that I'm very pleased with, but the color leaves a bit to be desired. (dull gray). Does anyone here have any experience with painting/dying nylon in a situation like this?

Thanks in advance,
pat

You can buy rit dye at most stores, I would go with black because of pack being gray or try calling some dry cleaners they may do it for you. IMHO I would just leave it, gray isnt that bad of a color.

While you can dye the pack the dye may bleed or rub
off for a while. Since gray is a neutral color that
will take on a darker shade as it ages and soils
from use I'd use it as is unless you're trying to
make a fashion statement.

You're right, gray isn't bad. I guess I just need to get out and use it more. :)
I was thinking some sort of camo pattern, but its probably not worth the effort.
Now if I could just do something about my girlfriends yellow and purple pack...
Thanks folks.

The simplest solution would be to buy some camo cloth & make a cover for the pack - You could go from "civilian" to "tactical" in a few seconds.

You can buy military issue camo backpack covers from places like Brigade Quartermasters and Major Surplus & Survival for about $10.00. I think spraypaint weakens nylon over time and the fabric ends up ripping out.
