Strange Catalog Find?

I was looking through the catalog and noticed the big Para 3 cutout/divider up front has 2 different scales? The front side looks to be the regular G10 almost herringbone looking scales while the back side looks more "checked", almost like FRN? Could it be FRN? Did I find a secret Easter egg in the catalog? Do I win something? Could it be another free catalog;)

Sorry, I thought everyone was a catalog fiend like myself. They are significantly different! Here goes-

hmmmm I see what you are talking about but on the checkered side it still has a lanyard tube... haven't seen an frn handle with a steel lanyard tube before

Yes, as it is a recent model that photo could be of a prototype scale finish that was not used.

Interesting find. That back scale definitely looks like FRN.

I used to request a physical catalog every year, but Spyderco doesn't send them out anymore, or at least not to me. The last one I ever got was in 2010 or so. The automatic response would say it's on the way after submitting my request, but no catalogs ever came after 2010.

I was having the same problem, until I got my mailman fired. He'd pick up mail every couple of days. Magazines and catalogs would be without plastic covers, opened and/or dog eared and between a month and 2 months late if they showed up at all. I complained numerous times (I lost count) to the person running our small town post office (Just the mailman and her work there). It would stop for a month or two then start right back up. So I went right to facebook and emails, leaving notes and pics proving my problems. Boy the USPS couldn't get back to me fast enough!

Then about a week later I got a little note with my mail saying she knew I was the one causing trouble and how I got a "good man" fired. I'd had this problem for 7 years! Who knows what else he was stealing? Good men aren't thieves. People with sticky fingers shouldn't be anywhere near the mail. He was warned, then I did what was needed. I had neighbors complain of the same problems at local cookouts. We'd all even had bills and magazines get "lost" before and even more often after I complained the first time. Strange thing though, after that guy was fired not a single missing or late magazine or bill by myself or any of my neighbors? Weird huh?

I suspect prototype the use FRN a fair bit on their smaller knives and the Para 3 is a smaller knife the initial proto might have been FRN.
