alrighty, here goes -- what are metal coat hangers made out of and could they withstand 1500+ degrees in the forge wrapped around a blade, or does it have toxic zinc or something? Any other suggestions for a wire that can stay on a blade during a heat-treat?

I use black baling wire to strap up billets of chainsaw and it stays in place even at welding heat...but not for a long time.

I would use it for a clay coat.

thanks -- how did you guess I was going to use it for clay-coating? :D
