Hello,I've been working on the edge of my Sebenza for awhile now.I've been switching back & forth between the sharp maker & the lansky.
Well,I got it reprofiled down to approx. 15 degrees.I used the sharpie technique & all seemed well.It SEEMS super-sharp.I was wiping it down & just touched my finger & it went through my skin like it wasn't there(just a papercut;)).The edge will not push-cut paper though.Do you think I may have a wire-edge?If I do,how do I get rid of it?I also stropped it several times. It seems like it's as sharp as a razor, but I still can't push-cut paper.

Any help you could provide me will be appreciated.

Thanks :)

I don't think it's a wire edge. Did it cut deep enough to draw blood? What type of paper are you using? Push cutting paper is harder then it looks (at least for me). I can get it to whittle hair, but push cutting newsprint seems hit or miss.

Josh,Yea it drew blood for about a minute. It was exactly like a paper cut.The paper I'm using is thicker than newspaper.

You said you were wiping down the edge, did you wipe your finger down the edge and it cut you?

Yes.I guess it push-cut my skin,but it won't do that with paper.:D

[edited] I didn't wipe the edge with my finger....just touched it.

That's interesting.... Do you have a loupe that you can look at the edge under? Maybe restart on the sharpmaker and leave out the stropping?

I have only ever been able to puch cut news print with a edge sharpenen by hand. I think that the perfect wedge of a edge made by a sharpening jig does not let the paper flow around the edge, the paper it trying to separate at too great of a angle causing it to rip or not cut at all. just my .02

You may also find that because the last part of the edge is very thin that it will micro chip when cutting coarse materials.

Thaks for the replies guys:thumbup:

I gotta go to work.I'll check back here later on tonight.

I have had similar experiences with my Seb, sometimes it will get so sharp that it almost feels dull, but will push cut newsprint. Other times it feels like a razor, but snags even slicing notebook paper. There seems to be a fine line with stropping the thin edge on the Seb. The blade comes down to such a thin point that any excess pressure while stropping tends to slightly round the edge......

I have learned that with the Seb, it takes a light touch and a good deal of patience.
