i wore my kabar in public for the first time in several months sence i got in to benchmades, man people sure did look at me strange. i dont know if i was used to them acting that way back then or if the people at the places that i regulared was used to me but eather way i dont think that i used to get strange reactions.

first i walked in to a electronics store, while i was going threw the door a man nearly slammed a door in my face. no biggie right? people dont hold doors like they used to and im used to that. well this guy glanced back at my belt when he was going in the door and admeadetly spun backwards and bairly caught the door and held it open for us. as soon as we passed threw the door he turned around and left :D

then, every body in the store froze and looked at me when i walked up to the counter, the sales people looked like i was about to rob the place. so i asked for a used n64 and some games. i smiled at them and started talking games, instantly they relaxed. i ended up staying a while and buying some other old games for my obsolete system collection after about 30 mins one of the sheeple behind the counter was having problems opening a box so i handed him the kabar. it was akward looking at first but the knife amaized him, he even wanted to know where i had baught it.

People always freak when they see the knife by itself and relax when it's being used for something. :D

i wear combate boots sometimes and i have a boot knife in one...one time after sitting my pants got caught on the knife so the handle was exposed.....i went to a few stores and got some really nasty looks..im use to them because i like be act up sometimes....well it wasnt till i got back to my car that i realized my blade was exposed and then i fixed it and looked up to start my car and bam..hello officer......i explained that i wasnt desplaying it....that is was just a mistake that could happen to anyone...he asked to see the know and looked it over really close.....i asked what he was looking for and he was like blood.....i told him that i have only cut myself with that knife 2 times...he just gave it back and left......im thinking he just got pissed off.....

:D  :D

I was hoping someone would get it.

Kabar, thats a pretty good story :D I fully support your right to do that. Just make sure to be extra friendly, I woudln't want any old ladies freaking out.

Damn....and I really like some of your posts & threads.

If I saw a guy coming into a store with a Kabar or a knife that size or bigger, hanging from his belt, I probably couldn't help laughing.

If he is not TOO big and he would ask me why, I would tell him in a polite way he's a poser.
(If he IS too big I probably would tell him I just remembered a joke with a knife in it.)

Grow up and wear it inside a vest or something.

Oh no, a knife! I never get strange looks when I carry a large fixed blade knife in a sheath. I have carried a Battle Rat on my belt and tied down to my leg for a couple months. Nobody has looked at me funny, nobody has commented on it, and no cop has hassled me. I think it is more a case of you living in a bigger city?? More sheeple per square mile, and many have never been to the wilderness or even a state park. I imagine it is even worse in "Europe", where "Stropper" lives

Morons like this are just sheeple being posers. If this shmuck was commenting on my knife, I would tell him to F!ck Himself and his vest.

Carry whatever/however the hell you want, sheeple be damned.

It's a shame we can't freely walk around with a fixed blade on our belt without getting funny looks, but the facts are some areas of this country aren't used to seeing things like that. I live in the suburbs of Phildelphia and I see a fair amount of people with folding knives with pocket clips, or folding knives in belt pouches, but I rarely, if ever, see people walking around with a fixed blade. Especially in a mall or a retail store of some sort. I would feel silly doing this myself. I also really don't see any need to wear a fixed blade knife out in public like that. If I'm going hunting, boating, hiking, camping, etc, it's fine, but I don't see the purpose of needing a fixed blade knife to go out to the mall or a store. A pocket knife will handle any cuttings tasks I may need while in the civilized world.

Exactly. And if you really feel you need to have a blade this size on you at all times, don't show it of like that.

Wearing an exposed KaBar to an electronics store is like putting a huge spoiler on a Lada. Laughable.

How big is the knife that we're talking about? I see people with fixed blades all the time. Most of the time it's construction workers or people that don't work in an office. Not that that's a bad thing.

I could see if the fixed blade was 4-5 inches long. If we're talking like 6+ inches I can see why people would look. That's like asking for attention :)

All your base.... :D Got to go find that link again! ROFL!
Last time I wore a fixed blade 'in public' was after a long morning of site survey (archaeological) through some of the thorniest cactus, rattlesnake and giant skeeter infested country in west Texas near Paint Rock. We stopped in at a small country diner for burgers and, not feeling like undoing my belt and taking off the knife or wearing only the sheath, I wore my Blackjack 1-7 to lunch. Place was full of redneck west Texas ranchers and some town locals. Got real quiet for a moment. Never figured out if it was my knife, that we were strangers and/or the fact we looked as if we had been dragged behind a horse, pissed on and been left in the sun for a week. We likely also stank of 'OFF!' which we had to liberally and constantly dose ourselves to make it back with any of our blood.
We got great quick service and the burgers, fries and iced tea were incredible....

Well finally today here at work (10 minutes ago) someone commented (not negatively) about my Sheath Knife. . . But she mistook it for a pistol :D She was jokingly asking if I would try shooting her kids with it, and I said, "no, actually its a knife". I guess she doesn't have much idea about Gun carry laws here if she thought I would/could carry my pistol in the open. But anyways- definitely not a negative experience regarding the sheath knife. :D

apparently i have offended some on with my poor english i would like to apologize....im sorry for the fact that i was not born nor raised in america my english is poor due to the fact that i am Polish and am a transferstudent....i try to take my time typeing but apparently it not work well.....i dont know what red mark means but red has never ment good things.....

no worries nate everyone gets busted on when they make mistakes in english or any other language for that matter.

i kinda agree with stropper but i wouldnt make any jokes about it.

Id probably carry a fixed blade out in the open where ever i went if people would leave me alone and not look at me weird.

Quite often I have a fixed blade on me for work. I find wood handles in leather pretty much get ignored, got nothing but stares when I owned a spydie temp fixed blade.
