Hi there Buck Knife fans!
I'm new on this forum and as a Buck collector, I thought I'd ask my fellow Buck enthusiasts for some help, since I have a knife of which the tang stamp looks a little off to me.

It's a 124 without any date marks on it.
I don't know exaclty what year this wpuld have been manufactured, but the main questiom I have is regarding the actual "BUCK" logo itself.

It looks like the 'U' is not stamped in all the way. See picture

Is this a common thing on 124's or Buck knives in general? Or could this knife be a counterfeit?

Looking forward to hearing from you, thanks in advance! Hope you all have a wonderfull day!

Welcome to the Buck Forum, Buck-1, The 124 began as the 122 around 1967 as a dive knife, called the Nemo.
Here is a link to Buck's history of the 124...
Around 1972 Buck added USA to the tang stamp, then in 1986 they began their date coding. Your 124 falls between 72-86. I doubt that it is counterfeit. HTH

B BUCK-1 As Preston said, welcome. I think you are overthinking it. It is a physical /mechanical stamp. Nothing is perfect, the stamps do wear with use. Preston gave you some good information and the date range he gave is good based only on the tang stamp. You did not give much of a picture but from what I can see the only thing I would add is I can see your handle is Micarta, that happened late 1970, but then the handles change to Birch in 1981 so that can narrow the age a bit more. The sheath, box, paperwork, etc sometimes helps even more.

I wish my stamp was as good as your stamp! 😁 😁
Like I said, things are not always perfect. In Bucks defense, my blade was a reject.
