I've been thinking some, after posting in reply to Nakano2...
A couple of odd things regarding my buck strider mini. These are things that don't seem to happen with my other linerlocks.
Let me preface this with the comment that I really love this knife, and it's a great EDC.
I'm not complaining, and I don't want anything "done" to fix anything. I'm happy with the performance of my knife, but I'm just... picky. Call it being a knifeknut. My dad would say (translated from the Chinese) that I'm full from dinner and I have nothing better to do.
1) There's something odd going on with how the lock engagement point creeps. I wonder if the titanium they use is softer than other companies? I've never had this kind of behaviour with my Emersons or Benchmades, but their titanium also looks very different (shiny, textured, variegated surfaces, vs the beadblasted, smooth texture?) Not to mention, Benchmade/Emerson don't use nearly as thick liners, so it could be the locking action that's rubbing the lock liner down so it engages at a slant, rather than the edge (as would happen with a particularly wide edge...)
I think I remember reading that Waving the Emerson also causes lock creep... anyone with a Waved Emerson want to confirm/deny this? The Wave sounds like a mighty powerful dynamic open (aka flick) so...
2) Another odd thing is the black dust line at the engagement point, as well as a black crud that builds up after only 15-20 open/close cycles at the bronze washer area. This happens after I've oiled the knife (with Militec-1 or White Lightning), so I guess it's the black dust mixed with extra lubricant.
What could it be? It's not dirt. Titanium dust/shavings? Titanium vs. hardened ATS-34? ATS-34 wins.
3) The extra-wide square washer is strange, and could prevent the lock from sliding off the tang on the opposing side.
4) Another really strange thing is that I've gotten some bronze deposits right above the "SB.2" stamp -- right where the side of the blade sits on the square washer. I don't know where that came from, or why it's doing that.
5) The cut angle on the locking surface looks shallow compared to the radial cut on Benchmades. I wonder if that contributes to the lock creep.
Ok, enough rumination! Any thoughts?
