AncientSword's thread reminded me to ask here about these punches.

Has anyone looked at, heard about, or bought a Jensen tools strap end punch? I've been looking at them on Amazon and they look unique, but that doesn't mean they are good.

Which brand do you like? The Osborne and Tandy models look good, but I'm always looking for options. The Jensen punches tick all of my boxes and are reasonably priced.

Last question. For, say, an English point, is there any reason why you shouldn't buy a larger punch so that it could be used with a larger range of straps? I typically use 1" or 1.5" straps. A punch made for the larger strap would work just as well with the smaller strap, no?

Tandy punches are junk, especially the hole and oblong punches. The Osbourne ones are much better and harder, meaning the edges won't roll over or chip after 5 minutes of use. Weaver punches are better and about the same price as Osbourne. I use an 1/8" above the strap I am working with. With any of them the larger you go the more the point is spread out, using a point or round edge 1.5" punch on a 1" strap is going to leave it very flattened and odd looking.

I agree Osborne punches are good and I have many. The Weaver ones are quite a bit better and have some and will be getting more. The Weaver punches come sharp and cut cleanly.
