Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the best sub-forum for this, but it seems to be.

Anyways, I currently use a single-piece can from United Cutlery for walking. However, there are occasions and situations where a folding cane is more convenient, too. I have a couple, but although they fold fine, the straps they usually come with don't hold the pieces as tightly together as I would like. I bought my own adjustable velcro straps that work better, but this necessitates having to put it in my pocket when the cane is in use. Not a huge deal, but what I would like it an elastic or adjustable type strap that I can attach to the handle of the cane and use that to keep the pieces together when folded.

Some of my canes in the past have wrist straps, but these aren't the same thing and don't work well for this purpose. The best I've seen are the kind they seem to use on longer canes for visual impairment, but standard canes don't seem to have the same straps and I'm unsure how to find them.

If anyone has any recommendations on adjustable or tight straps I might be able to attach to a cane handle to do away with separate straps I have to carry around, I'd appreciate it. I don't use this type of cane often but there are times I probably would if I could make the folding process more convenient. Thanks guys.

Ranger bands ?

Maybe buy a small diameter bike tube and cut some ranger bands out of it, they'll keep the thing all tight when folded up, and you should be able to put them around the handle if it's not a really skinny one.

You are now in DIY territory, and this is my solution. For cane and walking stick retention I use a short length of shock cord looped back on itself with 2 stoppers. In the picture below (I hope) on the cane is a bead made of Kamagong that was once the tip of the cane as one stopper, and a little titanium piece that threads 2 pieces of cord as the other. Shock cord is stiff when it isn't stretching, and it has enough elastic to secure things nicely. The cord sitting loose next to the cane is just a length of shock cord that I looped and tied and threaded with 2 cord locks. It's a configuration that you can snug up to the cane when it's in use, and expand out to tie it up when you want. That one looks ugly as sin, because I can't find any of the nicer ones I made since I had to clean the house in a hurry. Take your time, get some nice stoppers, and it will look as good as it works.

Thanks for your detailed response and taking the time to upload a photo as well. That is some fine work there! I am not sure mine are going to come out looking that good but I'll research this stuff, thanks!

I am not sure if I am catching your meaning, but have you looked at trekking poles? Specifically Leki wanderfruend. It is a collapsible trekking pole with a cane handle
