i was watching the stratus jump the other day, and when they were going through the check list for jumping they said something about a jump knife. what do you think it is ?

Spyderco Jumpmaster, maybe? It would make sense, but I dunno. Is there anywhere you could send a message to, to ask about it?

Well, considering how bulky those gloves looked he was wearing I would say either some sort of rescue hook or a fixed blade rescue knife. The jump is well documented even after he landed so I might be able to get a look at his suit and spot it attached to it some place.

I think this is a situation of a "cutaway knife" being an old term left over from when you actually had to cut away your main chute before deploying your reserve with an actual knife. In this case, the "knife" is probably some more modern system for releasing the main chute. Even space capsules that use drogue chutes have what are called "cutaway knives" but they're mechanical mechanisms, not handheld knives as such.
