I made a homemade stove similar to this, they burn really dirty..I like the MSR Pocket Rocket just as light but it burns clean and HOT
 
Yeah, I figured that they would burn dirty, but if you are able to just wipe down your pots before sticking them back in their stuff-bag, that shouldn't be too much of an issue. I'm kind of toying with the idea. But then I was also looking very seriously at the MSR Pocket Rocket which may suit my recreational camping needs quite nicely. I just hate the fact that there are a lot of places that restrict you from having campfires in the woods these days.:(
 
Yes I remember that of Calif. Being in Alaska you have the run of most outdoor areas to your self...Evenings meals taste great when cooked over a good coalbed..
