Streamlight Scorpian disappointing

The beam focus looks like a cheap $2 piece of junk. It's plenty bright, but ugly. It's sharply focused at one pinpoint in the middle, and uneven around it.

I like the click on/off button hidden in the back, but you have to push is in pretty deep, and it has to be pushed in even further to turn it off.

On the plus side, It's completely sealed up. I have a Surefire (well, several) and in the off position the screw cap and button are unsealed.

But for the same price, I would rather have the Surefire G2 with a better beam focus. It has a smoother bright area that fades out evenly around the edges.

If you don't want your new $2 Streamlight flashlight, let me know, and I'll take it off your hands as a gift.:D.:D.

Did you try turning the head of the light to focus the beam? If you didn't already know, you can change the focus to give a narrower beam (similar to SureFire), or a more diffuse light.

Interesting, I'll have to check that in the morning. I'll be sure to retract my gripe if that solves the problem. But I have never seen an adjustable focus beam I liked.

I did read the directions to find the spare bulb. That's one plus for the Streamlight.

It really focuses to a nice even circle, very tight. Another thing nice about the Scorpion (which is part of my EDC, by the way) is the rubber grip- with the approaching winter months, that is an improvement over aluminum bodied flashlights.

I don't know the life span of the bulbs, but I am on my 3rd set of batteries already. Another plus for me.

If it doesn't work out for you, compare your experiences with those on candlepowerforums and flashlight reviews. You could have a lemon, and then maybe the company will take care of you.
I hope it works out.

Another feature of the Scorpion is that when such flashlights were relatively new on the market, it seemed like the most rugged of the limited choices available. The early SureFire 6Ps were great lights, but dropping them on a hard surface all too often resulted in a broken lamp. The Scorpion was far more tolerant of such accidents.

I agree with Rhino. Although I only dropped my Scorpion once (drop and rolled:o ) the light never failed on that occasion and Surefire lamps can fail with that kind of impact. YMMV, I guess.

I adjusted the beam just a tad, and I can make it look like a somewhat blobby version of a Surefire beam. It's not bad. But that means it isn't tightened up and (I assumed) water tight.

When tightened down all the way, it does give more light off to the sides than a Surefire, even though the beam is even more blobby. It's still a good light, but I was hoping for more refinement.

Sorry you're disappointed in your Scorpion. I don't have that particular light, but I do have several other Streamlights and have found them to be very good products with very sharp focus and an even spill from the beam center. Run time is excellent. I really like their TL-2 line. Both incandescent and LED. Their latest version TL-2 LED is outstanding.

If you want a tight spotlight, you won't achieve it by tightening it all the way. 1/4 turn from tightness should do it. It's not a fixed focus like a Surefire, more like a better Maglite focus head.
