Could some Members please give impressions on the Stinger flash light?I am thinking hard about getting one.Pros&Cons,or other sugestions, would be great. Also battery life of nicad's...recomend total discharge before recharging?
Or charge after use?
Thanks for any info! Bill.

The Scorpion is small, light and relatively inexpensive (compared to similar lights). I like the fact that it holds a spare bulb. It doesn't use NiCads it uses two lithium cells (DL123A) which are expensive for regular use. Run time is also only about an hour. On the good side, while it is similar to a mini mag in size and weight it is brighter than a 4D cell mag light. The shelf life of the batteries is 10 years so it makes an ideal emergency or backup light that will not be used regularly or needed for long periods of continuously use. BTW, if it is left on for an extended period it will melt the lens.

Oops, Allen, you're thinking of the Streamlight Scorpion. The Stinger is a rechargeable light. The XT version has a push button tail cap, both versions are available in Polymer or aluminum.

I've had my stinger for 5 or so years, use it almost daily, and have only gone through two bulbs, and I'm using the original battery pack.

Output power would equal a 4cell maglite, using my best guesstimate; runtime averages 50-60 minutes. It also has a focus feature, but doesn't work all that good.

I would say the Stinger is an all around super-excellent light...

I agree with Dano. I've had mine for a little over four years (mounted the bracket on the left side of the driver's seat in my truck) and would not part with it, even if it is used "sporadically". I've had to replace the battery cell once (this year), but otherwise a tough, POWERFUL, flashlight to keep handy.

I use the Stinger on the job (firefighter)and like it fine. Strong, well made, easy to carry, plenty of light for my needs. The stinger is made so you don't have to completely drain the battery before recharging. Some guys at work call me the flashlight king because I've tried out alot of lights, but its the Stinger I now use.

I have a cop friend who swears by his. I have been meaning to get on for some time but have yet to.

It is nice to have that much power in a smaller size and I think the recharging is much more convenient than the Sure-Fire rechargeables.

Thanks Dano, I was thinking Scorpion. (Note to self, start brain then engage mouth.)

The stinger is very bright, and compact. I find it a little to large and heavy for daily carry, YMMV.

Run time is about an hour. I like the fact that it holds a spare bulb. NiCads are inexpensive for daily operations but represent a high initial cost. You can get a plug in charger or a 12V DC, cigarete lighter, charger. (Or both

) You can also get spare battery packs but you need a special adapter to charge the batteries outside the flashlight.

The stinger will melt its lens if left on for a long period. NiCads will self discharge in a couple of weeks so they are not suitable for storage. NiCads have a very sharp fall off when they are exhausted. You won't notice any loss of power until the batteries are almost dead then it will die abruptly. Spare bulds aren't a common item.

I like mine and wouldn't trade it.

I carry the Stinger will at work in addition to a MiniMag. The Stinger works great as a primary light, just have to keep reminding myself not to check the patient's pupils with it. (Something about frying the back of the skull thru the pupils, patients don't like that:O) The Mini-Mag works great for smaller light output situations. I wouldn't trade my Stinger at this point.

Work provides me with a Stinger and it does a fine job. I've dropped it a few times and it's still ticking. When I come home, I snap it in the charger and it's ready to go when I need it.

Great ratio for size v. brightness. It takes up no more room on a duty belt then an ASP.

I tryed, but didn't really like the XT version. The tailcap botton is a great idea (Surefire), but the XT is thicker and ribbed. It personal preference, but I like the regular sized aluminum version.

Do most of you guys own the Al version?

I was considering purchasing the polymer model in yellow but is it larger in diameter?

What is the diameter of the Al version?

I have an older model Surefire 6P/6R that the batteries won't hold a charge very long anymore. Also, the old charging procedure was a pain. The Stinger's quick chsrging capabilty looks appealing.

Thanks for comments!
