I have been shopping for a cheap Xenon light that is good quality and bright.

I came across this:

Streamlight Twin Task - 27.50 Shipped

It looks like a great price. I've read a little about this light. Does anyone in here own this light? I'd like to know what you think. I've ready bad things about the lanyard?

Is this a little too big for EDC? What would it compare to at that price?

Thanks for all your help!

I have the single cell Twin-Task. It is a good light/ The incandescent beam is bright and smooth. It roughly equivlent to a good two D light in brightness or a Surefire E1 if you know that light. The two cell Twin-Task may be brighter? The LED light is nice it is more than bright enoug for use in a tent or walking around camp. The light is very well made with nice fit and finish. It does have a few weak spots though. The lanyard as you noted is cheap. It is the type that comes on pocket camera etc. The other are that could be better is the switch. It is on the body of the light and is set up as Off-Led-Off-Incandescent. So if you are using the light and turn it off it comes on in the "other" mode when you turn it back on. This can be some what mitigated by turning the contact spring in the tail upside down and using the tail cap as a "twistie" switch in conjunction with the body switch. Turn the light on w/ the switch and then use the tail cap as a twist on and off. As far as size the light are a bit big for the 123 battery class. In praticular the head is larger than most. Not EDc size IMHO. At that price point not much directly compares to it. The Sure fire A2 is a simaler concept but is 4x the the price. The Surefire G2 and Streamlight Scropian are a bit more and have more punch but no LED. The Twin Tasks are realy by them selves for the moment. I use the light around the house or cary in a pack. I like it for camping as that is an area where the dual mode come in very handy.

I have the 2 cell twin task and I really like it. I'm no flashlight guru and I've read the complaints about the twin task series, but I think it is still a great light. The beam is not as tight and focused as my Surefire G2 (also about 30 bucks and a great deal), the switch isn't as convenient as it could be, but it is very solidly built and the leds are perfect for low light needs. If you're not used to spending 2 or 3 times as much for a light I think you will be very satisfied.

I bought the TT-1L at a gunshow. Really nice light and very useful for its size. I simply could not get over the cost of batteries though. I know you can buy them online fairly cheap, but nothing compared to AA batteries....I like buying 24 batteries on sale for about 6 or 7 bucks, and using them in my LED lights.

Anyways, if the battery cost does not bother you, then the SL is a good light. It is probably OK for carry if you wear the right clothes. I carried the 1L head first in the watch pocket of my Levis and that worked pretty well, it would however be a bit large to drop in the bottom if a regular pocket.

Hi,
I have the 2 - d cell model. I really like the LED part. I am seriously disappointed in the incandescent part. Very yellow and not very bright.

The lanyard is a joke. But the rest of it is well built.
Enjoy, Ken

I asked my wife to pick up a Christmas gift for our neighbor last year. While she was out shopping she went to one of my favorite places and bought one of the twin lithium Twintasks for him. I'd never seen it before and was shocked that it was so cool and a little jealous, but we gave it to him anyway. It was only later when we opened our presents that I found she'd bought me a Surefire L4 AND a Benchmade 941Ti-01 while at the same shop, so I got over it. He seems to really like the light, but I'm not sure he's figured out the switching sequence yet (plumber). It seems well built and throws useful light in both modes.

I bought a 2L and sold it 2 days later and bought a E2e.For just a little more the 2 cell streamlight at Wal Mart would be much better,39.99.

the twin task is a good light for the money imho, i have a 2 cell lithium model, and the incandescent is ok (brighter than an E1e SF, not as bright as a E2e) and the LED is brighter than my inova X5, all in all a good package, the lanyard is funky though, as far as size its similar to a Z2 SF.

as far as batt price, SF has the batts for about a dollar each, to get superior lights the lith batts are a must, ya simply cant get good light/small package w/out them, so get used to the price if ya want these options.

imho the light is well worth the $$

Great light IMO. I thought the two stage switch thing would be a pain but it turns out to be a lot of fun. When I turn the light off I usually leave it ready for LED mode but it's nice to have the option of switching to "high beam". I had both sizes but gave the bigger one to my Mom so she can find her way around the barn in the wee hours...... I'm with Greg, you whiners who think the batteries are too expensive need to get over it if you want a high performance light. Surefire has them for $1.25 each and Nightcutter will have them similarly priced in the near future.

...you whiners who think the batteries are too expensive need to get over it...

Huh, isnt that interesting. I stated that batteries could be found cheaply on the net. I was simply commenting that cost was still higher than normal, and for some people that is something they might want to consider.

Anyways, I guess I am one of the whiners, so blow it out your ass punk.

I have the 2 D-cell model. It's built like a tank. I love the feel. The 5 LED setting is bright enough for everything within 25 yards and has a published run time of over 300 hours (that's 13 days of continuous use). The 10 LED setting doesn't seem any brighter than the 5 LED setting. The Xenon bulb isn't that bright, but functions well for lighting up anything out to 50 yards.

I don't like the button modes (one press: 5 LEDs, two presses: 10 LEDS, three presses: Xenon). It really needs a second switch to select between the different modes.

I meant to bring up run time also, Mikul. The LEDs are a real selling point for me in that regard. The run time on my Surefire is only 1 hour at 60 lumens, so having the LEDs is a nice insurance policy on the Streamlight.

Hello, all.
I own 2 of the twin tasks, the 1L and 3C models, and I bought a 2L for my folks. I've been quite happy with them all, especially the 3C model. The 1L is decent for edc use, even if the head is a bit oversize, and the price at BrightGuy.com, $21, can't be beat. The 3C is also very nice, plenty bright, esp. the xenon bulb, and it's brighter than the 2D model. The construction of all my lights seems to be very solid, although I've yet to drop one, or do anything that would test this out. I don't really put anything I own to hard use purposes, so even if they weren't that solid, I doubt it would make any practical difference to me. The 2L is noticeably brighter than the 1L, and just seems like a handy little light for the glovebox in a car, or a jacket pocket for edc.

You can look here, at Flashlight Reviews.com Twin Task page , for a thorough review of the series. This page, particularly the beam comparison pics, helped me to make my final decision about buying one.

Yeah, apologies here as well Peter. Been a long week and I was acting like an butt. :footinmou

Light comments aside, I'd like to say how good it is to see what could have been a flame war other places settled in a Gentlemanly manner.

Congratulations to Peter and Richard.

I found the 2-D cell model to be too bulky and heavy for normal uses. Don't get me wrong, I have carried a 4-D cell Mag-lite for years ;)

I trade the 2-D model off and bought a 3-C cell model and really like it much better. The AA Luxeon model is a good one as well and has replaced my AA Mag-lite.

Just keep in mind you get what you pay for. They aren't built like and don't work as well as SureFire's but, the also don't cost like them either :)

I appreciate all the help everyone has been giving. I've made the jump and decided to get one. The reviews were good enough to warrant atleast trying it.

Next step is looking for batteries.

Does anyone know what AH rating surefire batteries have?

Just wanted to post an update:

I received the light today. While its a little larger than I was expecting, its looks great. Actually, I showed it to a couple people at work and their reply was...

"Thing is built like a brick sh1thouse..."

Lite is very bright.. The LED is a little more blue than I had hoped, but still great for a taks light.

Overall I am very pleased. With the 25.00 GC I had to amazon, it made it 2.50 shipped to me. Can't beat that......
