Just got the Street Beat today and it's one nice knife. great size and light weight. nice contours to the handle and spyderco sharp.

i dunno about you guys but the spyderhole doesn't bother me at all. it's very small and does give it some character. also the street price is very fair considering what you get.

my only gripe is the ricasso area just above the finger cutout. it's very square. this doesn't make the knife uncomfortable while holding it for me but i can see how it may affect other people. what it DOES do is that it digs in to the kydex sheath and makes it very hard to deploy. because it is so square it essentially anchors into the kydex and i cannot take it out without a lot of force and without making gouges in the kydex. i guess one can sand it down but that's the way it comes from the factory....

also of note is that the kydex sheath itself is of high quality and comes with a mini tek-lok. it does have a little rattle when sheathed but it's very minute and kinda expected for a production kydex sheath. it even has the "vent hole" found on custom kydex sheaths.

overall i'd give this knife an A. the only thing keeping it from an A+ is the aforementioned square ricasso area.

Hi Madfast,

Thanx for the kind words.

The sheath is designed with a "thumb-push-off" (TPO) feature. This permits discrete, silent deployment without using "big motion", while still permitting a very secure retention.

While holding the handle in a normal "hammer grip", push the sheath off with your thumb, rather than pulling the knife out.

Thanks for the tip sal!

well the sheath works much better now that i broke it in. plus i sanded down the ricasso area a little with some fine grit sandpaper. the knife is awesome:thumbup:
