I have a full size Street bowie (FB04, numbered, I bought it off a member of the collectors club). It was produced about 20 years back and rubber inserts start to decompose, they get soft and sticky. So, what can I do about it? the knife in general is still good. Sending the knife to Spyderco, regrettably, is not an option(

I've had the same thing happen with Kraton handles from several manufacturers. I've always ended up retiring the knife. Since it is just an insert on the FB04, I'd probably peel off the rubber and epoxy leather in its place.

Would like to see a photo of the condition you’re talking about. Not to be nosy but why not send to spyderco for re-hab?

Person is probably not in the USA.

I would second peeling them out epoxying on some sort of replacement scales. And then retiring the knife to lighter duty tasks.

You're right, me and the knife, are both in Russia. Even in more vegetarian times shipping to and fro would be 2/3 of a knife cost

I wonder why knife companies even use Kraton anymore when Thermorun is available.
It doesn't have those issues and it couldn’t possibly cost them that much more to produce.

I don't know that they do. That knife is 20 years old.
