I've been waiting to get my hands on one for quite some time. Anyone know (roughly) what stage in production the new version is at?

No but I have heard that they are indeed working hard on it. You'll know about it when they get ready to make it available because there are a lot of guys waiting for that one to make it to the line up.

I really liked the Perrin Street Bowie myself and deeply regret selling the one I had. I didn't really like the Kraton handle and I hope the new one doesn't have it but I could live it I guess.

The Perrin Street Bowie is one of many of those late 90s - early 2000s models that was just simply ahead of it's time. Because it seems like it took the Street Bowie along with about a dozen other models I could name off that didn't sell the first time around but are really fought over when put up for sale now a days.

It and the C-54 big Calypso are 2 I really love from that era.

I'm really looking forward to getting the Street Bowie which I ordered today. This is one of those items that have been on my Want List for a very long time. I missed out when Spyderco had these the first time around. I later 'discovered' the Perrin designs and wanted to get one, but by that time only rarely saw them at the auction sites for outrageous prices and often not in new condition. They sold quickly at auction anyway.
It got to the point that I was looking into getting a handmade Fred Perrin custom version. I made inquiries into this but Mr Perrin is in France and it was hard getting any answers on this. I don't even know if he takes custom orders today and how long it might take to get one of his knives or how much it would cost.

Ive been away from the knife forums for awhile. Ive been pleased with what I have in terms of knives. It seems that I use a few designs most for all my day to day needs. But then , , , I came across a reference to the Spyderco Street Bowie coming out again. Great News for me ! :)

And much, much cheaper than the auction knives or custom Perrins that I had been considering at one time. I will be sure to buy several of them over tiime, so if they are ever discontinued again I will be set.

I am fortunate, still have one of the originals, great stuff...i'll have to pick up at least one spare now that they are available again. I liked the Hossoms, the Moran fb1, the bushcraft, & the new southfork is nice, but this is my all time favorite FB Spyder. And compared to all the micarta handled models, it's a bargain to boot. If i were only going to buy 1, and had to choose between the perrin 5" bowie & the southfork, I frankly could not justify the extra cost of the micarta handled southfork when the perrin is so excellent.

I wonder how many times Spyderco has reintroduced a knife that they had discontinued before ? Did lots of people email them asking for the Street Bowie ?

Excellent question! If that's the case I will start the "bring back the Bob Lum tanto" campaign now.

Yea, and I'll start the "bring back the g10 endura/delica" campaign :)

I think I'll pick one of these Street Bowies up. I'm not sure what purpose it would serve... well, I'm sure it's rugged enough for mild outdoor use. And food prep.

How is the grip on it?
