strenght of VTAC handle

I got my ATC VTAC a few days ago, and used it to chop firewood as a test of it's chopping ability,I did convex the edge, and took it to the woods.

Suprisingly the thing chopped wood pretty good, although it has a light head and a short handle.

I chopped like a Berserker till i was so tired i couldn't lift my arms! I am not a lightweight by anyone's standard beeing 6 foot 4, and weighing 240 lbs

The VTAC survived my brutal use with flying colours.

I am wondering about the potential strenght of the handle, has anyone ever been able to break it?

I was watching Weaponology one night where they featured the Army Rangers and the Vietnam tomahawk. The guy discussing the hawk placed the VTAC against a curb and ran over the handle with a full sized pick-up truck and it returned to true.I hope that gives you an idea of the strenght of the VTAC handle.

The ATC VTAC for its size is a workhorse. I beat the heck out of three of them and the only way to damage them that I found: Is my own fault caused by throwing them and hitting one handle with another hawk. OUCH !
They are my go to hawk to use and abuse...

That was me who ran over the VTAC handle.
It is strong indeed. We did performed some other feats, such as driving the spike of the Emerson CQCT through the side of a 55 gallon drum. I peppered the side of the drum with 15 holes in a matter of seconds. Unfortunately, it did not make the cut.

I really love that show. That's awesome. Those things are tough. Was that your Idea to do that or was that something the show producers cooked up?Really cool though.I'm adding the VTAC to my list of near future buys.

Sorry to tell you that, but yes I "destroyed" the handle of my VTAC. I was throwing it all the time for months, it was impressing how strong the connection of the handle and the head was. Then...the head started to shake and to loosen from the handle. It was because of the SCREW that runs trough the head deep into the handle. This screw BROKE deep in it. I tried to get it out, replace the screw by another one, no way. It is too deep and tight to get anything on it.
This was the end of my VTAC. sorry guys, where is no screw, no screw can break.
Thought you should know that.

If Jurama525 has a bona-fide product issue, we will certainly take care of it, as we would with any customer.

His story is a little confusing however, so I would encourage him to contact us directly.

Mr. Branton could you please elaborate on the emerson some more? i am interested in the design and would like to know more about it. thanks.

yeah i'm very interested in the emerson story as well.i saw somewhere that it was made of s30v which ii though was odd but i just went to ATC and their it says 4140 alloy, whatever that is.

anyone got any info on 4140 alloy??

i also have a VTAC but havnt beat it hard enough yet.it is one of my all-time favorites.

The CQC-T is now made from S-7...we just haven't updated the site yet.

The 4140 material was and remains excellent...the S-7 offers greater shock resistance at higher hardness.

S7 sounds more like it.

......and for the record,i'm holding my VTAC right now and the design/logo on the bottom of the handle, the same one as you avatar is the coolest looking thing ever.

that thing rocks
