From a good friend: Good read during hard times...
Strength of Tempered Steel
August 07, 2010
By Sheila Schuller Coleman
"Steel that is tempered is tougher, stronger than steel that is not. Steel is tempered by subjecting it to very high temperatures. The process reduces internal stresses and defects, which ultimately results in a more malleable and fracture-resistant metal.
If you were building a structure, wouldn't you want to use tempered steel? If you were driving over a bridge, wouldn't you want that structure to be constructed of tempered steel? If not, the steel girders would be brittle, could break and crack under the stress of an earthquake or a hurricane or a tornado. But tempered steel is strong enough to hold up in tough times.
The world needs us to be as strong as tempered steel. There are many children, adults, and seniors in our world who are hurting. It takes the strength of tempered steel to help and make a positive difference without cracking under the pressure.
It takes going through life's fires to temper us, helping reduce our internal stresses and making us more malleable and less brittle. It is tempting to do anything we can to avoid the intense heat that tempers us into tempered steel, but God gives us the courage to be ALL He needs us to be - no matter what!
Prayer:
Lord, give us the courage to be all You need us to be no matter what! We ask not for an easy road, but we ask You to use us to make a positive difference in this hurting world. Thank You, Lord! Make us as strong as tempered steel! Amen."
