What is the strongest and most rugged large folder that spyderco makes at this time. I am talking around three and a half inch blade and up. I have an older Manix that is fairly rugged. What else is there that they make that is tough

The old Manix were the ones. I don't think anything current comes close to those. There's some nice work knives though like the Gayle Bradley.

It's tough to beat the ZeroTolerance heavy folders for the price.

Since both the Manix and Chinook have been discontinued, and the Tuff and LionSpy are not available yet, I'd put the titanium RIL Military at the top of the heap.

for blade strenght you forgot the valloton gentlemen, i've see spine shots of the blade and i don't see how i could damage it .... it perhaps lacks some grip texture to be a real utility knife but construction wise it seems pretty strong

My rhoughts exactly. I've ordered but not yet received it but I have no doubt this is a tank of a knife. Thick spine tanto shape blade, strong liners with good scales, the only one to rival it would be the Superleaf with its 4mm blade, thick neck and compression lock.
Another one on the shortlist. ;)
