I know,I haven't been posting much lately,(sorry guys :o) )I've been stressed over my truck & work.
The truck is fixed, but work is slow, with orders trickling in at a snails pace so it's kinda stressful not knowing if you'll have a job in a couple of months.

Anyhoo....
I finally got a chance to take a road trip and hit the hills yesterday to see wether or not I could get to my favorite camp.
The good news is,all the snow is gone in the lower elevations & my camp and the surrounding area I like to wander around in didn't burn in last summer's fire. :)
The snow is still blocking the road to the higher elevations so I'll have to wait to see what areas did burn.

I pulled into Hidden Camp yesterday around noon or so & immediately felt the stress melting away.
It sure was good to finally be back.I had a look around & it was pretty much the way I left it last year.
Someone(probably hunters last fall) had used it,but they kept it clean.

It was sunny with a nice gentle breeze & it sure was good to just sit & listen to the wind in the trees.
As a matter of fact it was so relaxing I stretched out in the back of the truck & took a nap.;)
After waking refreshed & full of vim & vigor,I decided to do some serious stress relief,JK style.;)
I brought the Chop Muk & Tool with me hoping to get some chopping in.
I hadn't used the Chop Muk yet & was itching to try it out.
I decided to chop down a little pine that died a couple of years ago & I've been letting season.

Mmmm, that's some good wood it says.:)

The Chop Muk made short work of bringing down the little pine & then limbing & chopping it into fire sized pieces.
I was able to make a half ass fuzz stick with it,but the CM is really too big & heavy(unwieldily)for good fuzz sticks.
The Tool on the other hand is perfect for the job.
The extra steel in the nose of the CM gives it that extra umph to really bite deep & throw chunks & the handle gives a great grip to get ahold of.

Thank you Rob for donating it for Hanna's cause & allowing me to snag it.
I hope your dad was watching & smiling as I put it through the paces.
He & John designed a beast of a chopper & I wish he could have had the pleasure of using it.

A couple of aces that'll handle any job.

After the chopping workout,I went for a hike & on the way back to camp I stopped to check out a cluster of shrooms & take a pic with my little GEC Pemberton.
Before the pic,I heard a noise to my right just off the trail & looked and it was a hen turkey.
She was walking & clucking, not in a big hurry, but not wanting me to get too close either.
See Her?Right in the middle of the pic between the trees?

How about now?
Ah yeah, there she is.(after cropping the pic)

And the Shrooms.
The Morels aren't up yet so I had to settle for these guys for a pic.

And a couple of glamor shots of the JKs for the day.

And my sheath setup for woods bumming with the Tool.
I have a sharpener,a chunk of fatwood with jute twine tied on & the firesteel.(fire making won't be a problem ;))

Thanks for lookin'.

looks like a great trip sir. I'm betting your morels will be even later than normal as ours are normally up last week and early but are just getting here now. I haven't found any as of yet but they are suppose to be popping now according to the local forums.

Days like that make living in the great northwest worth it. That Chop Muk is a beast.
Thanks for taking us along.

I was going to say that you should have used an Axe for that work. But - I think you have it handled. ;)

TF
I have axes that would be embarrassed by that blade.:D

We usually get 'em from late May into June up there where I camp so I wasn't really expecting them, just hoping.

Godspeed UDTJim - and glad to see a good man using the Chop-Muk the way it was intended.

The Tool is another great design from the minds of JK supporters - Mykel , you are one of the best.

best

Looks like a great way to spend the day. I need to get out, might push away my "gloom and doom mood."

Great pics, Myke! I will live through your adventures for now. I was saddled at the house all weekend doing "stuff". The raised beds are ready for planting, though.

Nice to get away, I imagine...
