Stretch 2 Lightweight in ZDP-189

I'm really eager to pick one of these up. I've seen a couple of sites which will allow pre-orders but none yet in Stock. Has anyone heard a release date yet? I have an FRN VG-10 Stretch which is a heavy user for me but the tweaks to the updated model look pretty compelling. Can't wait to get this one in hand.

Haven't heard anything as to when either FRN version will be released. Personally, I'm more eager to see the VG-10 version, but I suspect that, just like last time, the ZDP-189 version may be released first since it will share blades with the G-10 Stretch 2 that's currently in production.
 
This knife, like a lot of others, are much anticipated and no news forthcoming about a release date, as of yet.
 
I'm on the same page as the Deacon, VG-10.
And for this model, partially serrated.
I either gave away, lost, or sold all of my previous Stretches in this configuration and was one of my more useful affordable beater knives.
Still have a ZDP but it never sees pocket time.
 
I too am eager to hear about all the updates with the model. I know there is a deeper choil, which is appreciated but I heard rumors the handle may be longer? I am excited to hear the exact updates to it.

Stretch 2 handle is slightly longer, and its choil a bit deeper, than the earlier versions. I love all the older versions of the Stretch so, for me, the extra length is just bloat. However, some folks found the grip are on them a bit cramped, so this version may allow more users to enjoy the Stretch.

I've also been keeping an eye on the Stretch 2, probably in VG-10. I briefly had a stretch and the handle was just a bit cramped for me. I wanted to like it but it just didn't feel right for me. I have XL hands. I have a delica, endura, sage 1, Manix LW, and have been anxiously waiting to get my hands on the stretch 2 with the bit longer handle and slightly flattened butt.
 
The grip was cramped for me..
One of the reasons I always traded them.

That's why I just never got into it.
 
The only thing I've ever wished was different was the choil. But it's still completely useable on the original. My SB Stretch has been with me longer than any other and there are no signs of it ever leaving. Rarely does more than a week go by that it doesn't get to go on my daily ventures. Truly my favorite knife from Spyderco.

Appreciate the pics and info! I held the original before and it felt pretty good in hand.
 
I originally found the grip at the finger choil very odd feeling on the Stretch 1 due to the width. Got used to it, but think the Stretch will probably feel a bit better in hand.
 
The new Stretch is about the same knife. I think I like the handle shape of the new knife better and the blade shape of the old knife better. Based entirely on the side by side picture in this thread.
I happen to like my Stretch zdp 189 very much, but for some reason, I carry my Endura zdp 189 much more often.
 
Not sure of the release date, but I can't wait for the new FRN Stretches! I picked up the brown G-10 Stretch 2 a while back and I love it! The new ergos are great as far as I'm concerned. It's not a huge change, but definitely noticeable in hand. I like the larger choil, its great if you need to choke up a bit for harder cuts. Also the new ergos allow for me to use the knife much more comfortably with gloves. Now to decide on VG-10 or ZDP-189.... Who am I kidding.... Both is always the answer! :D
 
I have a Hap40 and a VG10 stretch and love them both, so I think a ZDP Stretch2 may be in order when released.
 
I appreciate the feedback and pics. It also looks like the blade shape is a little taller with a more rounded tip?

Right you are, the blade is a little bit taller, and the tip is not quite as pointy. Also, the actual cutting edge is a little bit shorter on the Stretch 2. Another thing I've noticed (and quite like) is that the thumb ramp is a bit more of a gradual slope up on the new Stretch.
