This in from Davis61381.

Request is for green (teal) EDIT: order change to green olive drab G10 scales to replace the stainless Tapped for tip up or tip down right hand carry using the origninal clip.

Ok Dave she is logged in and I'll get to it when it comes up. Stay tuned to this thread.

You can see it here just the way it arrived with the inserts for grip already missing.

Thanks.

You'll be happy to know your Stretch is finished and will be on the way home in the morning mail providing I hear from you and get your new address.

Thanks my friend for the job and mostly for your patience.

WOW! that looks great! Can't wait to get it into my hands!

Thanks again. The turn-around was pretty quick too.

Yeah, thats why I told you more time than I thought it might actually be. Its better to be faster than slower. :D

Looks great Steve. I thought you don't like working with G-10.

Actually as far as working with it goes I don't just not like it, I hate it! But its demanded so often I have little choice but to bite the bullet and use it. I buy 1/8" stock to 150 thickness stock and use that to minimize sanding and prep work and for finish I insist on bead blasting it. Its the only way I can work with it really.

I go through a lot of respirator filters and bascially wear one from the moment I walk into the shop to the second I leave. Otherwise I'd not be able to even be around it.

Hello STR,
Man, that green looks really good, makes me want one. The SS turned me off.
A lot lighter I get!
:D

Lots lighter. I've been kicking myself since realizing I forgot to weigh it. It felt like a night and day diff too! I suspect its around 2.6 to 3.1 or so ounces. Thats about what it felt like but you can't tell really well in the hand many times.

I look forward to hearing from David on it when it arrives. He plans to weigh it and let us know.

Tracking puts the knife in Springfield Mass. I should have it soon!

Edit: It was in Springfield. It arrived in Torrington @ 4:13 am (just about when I let the dog out). Hopefully it made it to my house today. If not tomorrow.

Well it's here. and I love it! Thanks for the heads up on the Green G10. It's the exact color that I wanted. The grip is excellent and the texture of G10 refracts the light and gives the knife a quasi-holographic effect.

It weights in @ 93 Grams (3 3/8 Oz) that's down from 128 Grams (4 1/2 Oz.) the spyderco website has as it's OEM weight.

I left my memory card at work, but I'll be taking pictures of it tomorrow.

Thanks again Steve, I know where to go if I ever need any other custom folders done. It's AWESOME!

Thanks for letting me know. I was off a bit and its heavier than I thought or expected but its still significantly reduced for you.

Glad you like it. I knew you would. :D

great looking Stretch STR
out of curiosity, is the steel used in the lock made out of VG-10 (on a factory Stretch)

A lot of custom makers will use the same steel for backsprings or lock bars and other parts used in the folder but I can't say for sure thats the case on production folders. I think in most cases no, particulary on models that are line production pieces. On limited run high dollar collaborations there may be exceptions for this.

I seriously doubt it is VG10 in this one because production companies really prefer steel that parts can be stamped out by blanking which is a big plus to reduce the cost. Steels like 420HC are popular for blades for this blanking ability it gives the manufacturer so I'd suppose that would be the case for small parts to reduce cost. It may be different with modern laser water jet cutting tools I really can't say for sure. A billet steel like VG10 would be more expensive from many stand points I think to use in small parts as well as blades so I'm inclined to think no but Sal would be the real guy to ask on it. There may be things about the steel I am not aware of but I doubt it would be one that blanks easy, however I could be wrong about that. For all I know they do that in some places. Maybe that is dependent on the thickness too. Maybe if we are lucky we can get Sal in here for an answer to that.
