I find the Grip priced at $51.75 at Cutlery Shoppe and the Stretch is $91.75. I know so little I would like any thoughts on which and if the vast difference in price makes the Grip best. It is a sale price, too.

The price of the Tanto Grip seems like a fair deal [if it is the Full Size Grip] and the price of the Stretch 2 ZDP-189 seems about average.

I think the Stretch is more ergonomic and may be more usable with it's blade shape.

Tanto style blades are made for piercing although some like to utilize for edc.

The difference in price is because the Stretch 2 is using exotic steel and imo has a bit more into the design vs. the Grip. I imagine production costs for the Stretch 2 are more considering the Griptilian cookie cuts Griptilian handles and just adds in all sorts of different blade styles.

When I think of the Griptilian from BM I think of the Endura from Spyderco.
Those knives seem to compete on the same level.

They are such completely different knives, which ride differently in the pocket and feel differently in the hand, that you might take the prices out of the equation and determine which one you like best. A short time down the road and you won't remember or care what you paid for it.

I would go for the black FRN Stretch, but thats just my subjective opinion. :)

The ZDP-189 Steel is some awesome stuff, too goo to pass up IMO. :)

I'm not a steel snob, but folks who are heavier users may prefer ZDP for edge retention. VG-10 is good stuff though, and no slouch. :)

Personally for me this isn't really a choice at all. ZDP Stretch hands down. I've owned a Grip and a ZDP FRN Stretch. The Grip has been gone for some time and the Stretch still sees plenty of pocket time. So sharp, very ergonomic, nice and light, and excellent lockup.

WHERE ELSE CAN YOU FIND A ZDP-189 BLADE ON A KNIFE THATS LESS THAN 100 BUCKS!?!?!?!?!

Sorry for the caps :p. It's that good of a deal if you look at the complete package. Yes VG-10 is an awesome all around steel and one of my 3 favorites but ZDP-189 is an exotic super steel that just oozes coolness with ridiculous edge retention and just how super sharp you can get it. If you could care less about steel and just want something that works then yeah go with w/e you want. Rest assured there is no cheaper and better way to get a ZDP blade than with the FRN ZDP-189 Stretch 2. Nuff said stop making new threads on both forums and just buy the dang thing :D

How can I go wrong with a person quoting Shakespear in their reply? Macbeth, too!

Looks like the FRN Blue Stretch is what I will order. Thanks to all for this help.

If I got a blue ZDP Stretch, which I have come very close to doing, I would swap blades with my black FRN Stretch to make a black ZDP. I like the blue, but in small doses (I have a blue Delica) and just don't think I would want a blue knife poking out of my pocket for the long run.

I would normally agree with this statement, but this blue is kind of nice and I usually carry this knife at work where I'm wearing blue jeans anyway. The knife tends to blend in with the blue jeans so it's not really noticeable. Once the knife is in my hand and cutting, I could care less what the color of the handle is as long as the blade is sharp and locked up tight.

Yeah, I did not think about the blue jean thing. Hmm. I like for a folder to blend in - though I do sport an orange Military from time to time.
