Hey all,

Been a long time since Ive been in here posting! Hello to the guys who remember me! Anyways I was here last night and saw a Strider AR for sale by KJO. I know its a great knife, and I always wanted one but always had them somehow slip away out of my reach. So I am getting that knife ina few days but was wondering if anyone can give me some info about them again to refresh my memory.

I plan on using this everyday. I am not going to chop trees down or save puppies from man holes :) so how long can I expect this knife to last under medium duty use? on a scale of 1-10 how would you guys rate the AR compared to the ( I forget the brand name sorry)socom elite, amphibian, or the master of defense knife ( that huge klunky one with the window breaker and built in parachute LOL. I had those 3 knives so I know what I had with those things... great quality, fit and finish excellent, butter smooth action, but i was afraid to use it other then cutting a piece of tape. I sold them all to members of this forum so I forgot their brandnames since I dont own them anymore! Last, I remember the blade thickness being huge on the striders which is a + for me... how thick are they compared to other "durable" folders? Any info is appreciated alot!!!

P.s.,, how durable is the tiger finish? Thanks!

The AR is significantly larger than the Microtech Amphibian, the Amphibian is the only knife I have owned of the one you listed. The blade on the AR is .185" thick at the spine if my memory is correct and I think the Amphibian is .165" thick but I could be wrong on that one. The AR is much wider in the handle and blade but fits my medium hands okay. The flat ground blade slices really well for such thick stock and is fairly pointy.

The tiger striping is fairly durable though not great, it will wear off. Under medium use this knife will out last you, saying it is built like a tank doesn't really get it until you have it in your hand then you'll understand.

Congrats on your new purchase, you are gonna love it.

The AR has to be the reigning king of the overbuilt linerlocks. It's liners are nearly as thick as a framelock lock bar, at .100 or so. In comparison, most custom makers use liners that are still strong enough, but are only .060.

Strider's knife to knife consistancy is not quite what Chris Reeve's is, but, when you do get a good one, it strikes me as a stronger knife than a Sebenza.

Odd as it may seem I've never had a Strider AR. With my preference for big ole' honkin folders you would think that the AR fills the bill. I have handled them and played with them and they are everything people say about them. The only reason I don't have one is due to the pocket clip......I know it seems silly but I just feel that too much of the rear end of the knife sticks out of your pocket. As far as durability is concerned I think the AR will more than last you a lifetime under your planned usage. :) ENJOY IT!! :D :D :D
