What would be the advantages of having one knife or the other? Both are great, but for the widest array of uses, what knife fits the best IYO?
Thanks
Luke

The AR has a blockier handle and feels much bigger in hand. The SmF is more streamlined and has a thinner profile. Personally of the two I like the SmFs better. The SmF seems better for small to medium jobs where as the AR would be better for medium to big jobs. But, YMMV.

The blade dims on both knives are the same. I currently have an AR(will be heading to a new home soon), it's big in the hand. I have no doubt that either knife will handle any job you could dish out. I'm going to kindly disagree with Mr. Oilman, and say that the SMF will be the more heavy duty of the two, since inherantly a frame lock is stronger in my opinion. Everything else is pretty much equal. Mick strider has said in the past that they are both great knives but the PT/SNG/SMF design is all around better.

Well, they are the same length but not shape or depth. And I'm going on Size and Feel for my definitions as to what can handle what. Doesn't your AR feel tougher than a SMF, SnG, or PT?

Mr. OilMan? That's my dad. I'm just oily. :D

I would say the AR feels bigger and more massive, but not neccessarily tougher, I do get your point though, there's something impressive about a liner lock with liners that are close to 1/8" thick, no doubt, it is the most overbuilt liner lock. :)

I think a well made AR or SMF is each a very capable knife, I wouldn't say one is tougher than the other, it should come down to which you find more comfortable in your hand and easier to carry, some do feel the AR is too blocky/big to carry, others say it's very easy. I like and own both.

Ditto. Monday thru Thursday I have a SMF or SnG with me but we have dress down Fridays with jeans and then my AR or GB comes out. The AR or GB just aren't good/comfortable with dress pants. For me anyway.

later,
