I'd like comments from somebody who owns an Sebenza and an AR. I am interested in comments about fit and finish of the AR vs. the Sebenza.

I know what you mean, oh-oh.;)

The best way to go is to say that these are two dramatically different knives. To be sure, you can abuse a Sebbie, and many have. It's more of a gentleman's knife.

Me? Well, I've never been a gentleman. I wear blue jeans every day and drive a F-150. To that end, I carry a Strider AR and SnG.

BTW, I like Sebbie owners. One of my best friends in the forum is Lynn Little, and he carries a Sebbie everyday. He also is a loyal Strider client, as I am.

Being 53 years old I realize that there is 'no best.' The better question is "What's appropriate?"

I have two large Sebenzas and a small Sebenza. Also have an AR, 2 GBs, and an SNG.

These are two very different knives, in my book. I think they are both pretty bullet-proof. The AR is a lot larger, and for my hands, I like the size and grip. The Sebenza feels thinner. As far as the fit and finish, my AR was stiff at first and needed some openings to smooth out. The Sebenza was extremely smooth.

Both excellent knives.Probably not a lot of help, but others will offer their thoughts. Again, these are very different designs and individual preferences will be the key difference.

The knife that is comperable in size to the Sebenza is the SNG. It took me a bit to get used to one G10 scale and one Ti scale, but I have grown to like the lightweight knife.

If you have more specific questions, I might be able to help further. Initial impressions when you open the package may be very different in the sense that when you open the Sebenza you see a very elegant, neat design. When you open the AR, you see a very practical, tank like design.

Either one would serve you well. They are both exceptional knives.

I have a Sebbie and really like the fit and finish. I've been eyeing up an AR for a while but wanted to get and idea of how it comparse in the fit and finish area only. I know they are two different knives. I'm particularly interested in if there is any blade wobble when locked and if the blade is centered when closed. With the Sebenza, the knife feels like a fixed blade when it is open.

Kutch133,

Don't worry about Q/C on a Strider, and I mean even if a bad one is shipped.

You drop Mick or Duane a polite letter about your knife and it gets fixed, period.

Half the reason I own Striders is because Mick is a man of his word. Otherwise, an AR is a four-hundred dollar putty knife.

The key to customer service is polite discourse, and Mick will respond.

Same is true for AR, at least with mine.

While the G10 scale covers the lock on the AR, it is an extremely thick liner and functions as a frame lock. The only differenc is that as you grip tighter, the G10 is not going to move in and "squeeze" the lock.

You remember when "Bond, James Bond" jumped into the tank in "Goldeneye?"

Do you think he enjoyed driving that more or less than when he's driving that Aston Martin Vanquish with the rockets?

:)

At this level, it's more about your personal style than anything else.

:)

One thing needs to be noted, though -- as many have cited above, the AR is a big motha beast. The Sebbie is much more akin to the SnG. However, even then, the Sebbie is overall more "refined" in terms of appearance, it's less likely to raise, un-necessarily, the eyes of sheeple; the SnG is much more para-militaristic by comparison.

Everyone will tell you the AR is a large knife but you will be blown away by it's size when you get one in your hands.

Those damn Sebenzas!!!:p

Those Damn AR's!!!:p

Own them both and they___________________[fill in the blanks]

What's your opinion of Microtech? Are they better than Benchmade or worse than Spyderco or SOG or Cold steel?

Speaking of Cold Steel, mine is....

What about Infi, does it hold an edge better than S30V, ATS-35 or 440C after being sharpened on a granite rock?

Is it true that Kit Carson once used a screw he found in a parking lot to hold on a clip on one of his Model 4's? Do you consider that outsourcing? Should he have called that one a "Mid-tech"

Does anyone know if Rob simonich sings better than Tom Mayo?

Can a Sebenza be used to gut a Black bear if said black bear is pregnant?

Anyone ever use an AR to to split cord-word?

I'm done:D

4 my particular preference...I'd take an SNG over an AR just cause I don't need the size of an AR.

Anyone have pictures of the SnG and AR next to each other? I think the SnG will be my next knife lol....this sebenza is nice....but i like to keep it nice too

torment:

Please shoot me an e-mail at CXL77@po.cwru.edu -- give me a return e-mail addy that can handle about 2 or 3 one-meg resolution digipix.

:)

I've got a Strider-TAD T-AR and a Gen1 SnG.

I'd take the AR. Not that there's a thing wrong with my SnG - I simply have a lot of decent mid-size folders, but only one AR-sized behemoth. (OK, so mine is actually a GB - the tonto equivalent to the AR.)

Thanks man....dang things are a lot bigger than i first thought. Thanks for the snaps :) ...now where are those surefires? :D

Im like a bug drawn to the electric zapper, cant..... resist...

I will go out on a limb here and say what some seem shy to, the Sebenza is more likely to arrive with the things you said you wanted, a perfectly centered blade, and no play, lets put it this way, the odds of you opening up the Sebenza box and finding an uncentered blade, and/or play are close to ZERO. Yes, it could happen, but it is RARE. Whereas with an AR, well, the odds arent quite as good, which is why the Sebenza remains the only production knife i feel safe ordering sight unseen, i like to examine Strider folders before i buy them, having said all this, i love the AR design, and i own one and have owned a bunch of Striders, i love them for their overbuilt, and unique designs, and if you do get a good one, it can be a very good knife, but, again, you specifically mentioned centered blade and play, and most will agree, for that sort of stuff, the Sebenza is your best bet.

Agreed w/ Megalobyte -- however, I feel that all "customs," even "production customs," should be given a certain degree of lattitude in such respects, be they knives, cars, whatever.

:)

As long as the maker will make good in re-tuning/troubleshooting the blade so that it arrives to your satisfaction, that's all that really matters to me.

Certainly, initial-quality is something to be said, but for such specialized products, I tend to give them lattitude.

After all, I've seen bad carbon-fiber work on million-dollar exotic sports-cars displayed and owned by friends, LOL!

:)

torment, LOL, that AR-T would dwarf my TW4, and even my C3/KL3-mod 5W V4. Hell, it'll give a M6 a good run for the money!
