Hello to all,

Iv'e been lurking the Strider forum for over year now from Antarctica;
McMurdo Station to be exact. You guys have some great threads going on. Had to re register after reading about the Hippy Forums but since thats old news I'll leave that alone. No knife content anyway. The MT I had there worked like a cro-bar and never failed me in the sub zero weather. Lots of knives go "SNAP" in that enviroment. I wasn't too PC with that knife on hip. I got some strange looks to say the least. The field workers love Strider's though and I wouldn't be suprised to see many more there in the future. You have to tell the "Crunchers" down there that it's a Tool and not a weapon. Sold the MT to a buddy and am now impatiently waiting for Ossagrande to send me a New MT with Tiger stripes.
Since Iv'e been back I can't believe the cool knives M and D have created. Great work guy's ! Guess I'm gonna be in the Strider line waiting for several more from now on. Hope you release that FE blade for public sale soon. God Speed you guy's heading over to the sandbox. I live on the Edge of Hurlburt Field Florida and Striders should be standard issue around here. Each one should have a Milspec number.

Cheers,

Hal

Welcome,
Must be quite a climate change from Antarctica to Florida.

Good to have another memeber interested in Striders, its like group therapy:D

The FE is released, I have one on order.

Hope you get your MT soon.

Take care,
Reed

Thanks Reed. It's great to be stateside. Can't buy any knives from Antarctica. Great to see so many like minds on this Forum. It's been one of the more civilized Forums I have seen. I hope to order an FE soon as well. The shape reminds me of a Gerber MK II.

Cheers and thanks for the welcome.

Hal

Willy,
Glad to hear that all the heroes at McMurdo Station have great taste in tools. Enjoy the FL weather. That's my old stomping ground. I love that place.

Cheers to ya Knifebomber...thanks
Eglin and Hurlburt are right next door. The test range is within earshot and The Spooky's make alot of noise at night. It's been a little quiet lately though.

Hal

Mr. Hal,
Many thanks for the kind words. Send us photo's of your gear in action if you want them placed among others, published or not, just let us know.
Glad the tool held up for you.
Enjoy you Veteran's Day Weekend.
Duane Dwyer

Thanks Mr. Dwyer,

Though I have several photos of us working on the runways and at remote camps. I'm sorry to say no Knife action photos...Yet.
What a great Idea. Strider at the bottom of the world. You and Mick's tools have been used to chop ice, cut frozen drywall and punch holes in plywood, etc. I wore mine under the parka to keep it warm.
I'll go thru the slew of photos I have and see if something turns up and try and post it.
BTW I guess Uncle Sam wouldn't allow the Navy support forces to carry a Knife on duty at McMurdo, but there were alot of drooling faces. If I return next year, I will send you guy's some pics.
We even had Guinness on the Ice as well.

Thanks,

Hal

Did you happen to run into Porter Turnbull down there last Feb??
He was with the National Geographic team and lives near me...he is also our chiropractor and a great guy.
Unfortunately two of the team members were on one of the planes that hit the WTC on Sept 11!!! :(:(:(

Hi Tom,

I work winters. Usually April to October. During winter the Station is stripped down to essential personel for maintaining the facilities and build the runway for scientists in early summer. Not many scientists or film crews in winter due to 24hr. darkness. There's always some Geographic film crew down there in Summer (Oct to Mar.), but I don't know him. Though the name sounds familiar. Sorry to here about those crew members.

P.S. Salute to you folks who have served or are serving now.
Have a great Veterans Day

Cheers,

Hal
