Hi all

First post here on the Buck Knives Forum

So here it is:

Years ago I bought this knife:

I think it is an awesome knife, but I haven't been able to bring myself to use it.

The hollowgrind leaves a very thin edgebevel (think it's the right word), and I would be afraid to do damage to the knife, with hard use.

I know Paul Bos is a master at HT, but there is only so much you can do to a thin edge.

The knives I use for heavy duty work are primarily Busse, Swamprat and Scrap Yard knives, with which I have no worries putting to work.

What are your thoughts on giving the 888 a hard workout?
What would you consider the main intended purpose of the knife is?

Thanks

Rasmus

I have 3 of them. Two are users and one is NIB (I bought that one at the Buck Factory sale in 2005 for $75 IIRC). I dont abuse my knives, but the 888 Solutions i have seem to be holding up just fine and are great field blades. I have used mine quite a bit when out camping. They are based on the Strider EB-S and EBL-S which also came with ATS-34 blades with a Paul Bos heat treat. I dont like the factory sheaths and have had a kydex sheath made for my main 888 user. All the Buck/Strider collaboration knives are discontinued so there is some collector interest/value. The last one I bought this summer for $60 from a local guy in Spokane.

I really should just throw it in the backpack one day, and put it to work.
Dislike the thought of a nice blade gone unused.

Thanks for your reply...

I too, am not too crazy about the sheath. It may be time to make some kydex for it.

Thanks for the kind offer, but it has never been my intention to sell it.

I think it is BAD A.. blade!
