As an old gun collector the marks on a piece are interesting to me. I just got a Strider Buck Solution (mod. 888). I'm curious what the SB.3 mark on the blade means. SB is obvious, but the "dot 3" and the Pi symbol under it must mean something, Can anyone here fill me in on this?

The Π sign indicates the blade was made in 2001. I would presume the 3 is the model number.

Thanks. I didn't know when these knives were made. I don't know much more than they were the result of a brief collaboration between Strider and Buck, and that Paul Bos did the heat treat on the steel. The general specs were what attracted me to the knife. There ain't anything subtle or elegant about it. It's about as rugged and basic as a knife can get. Fairly short blade, thick with a drop point. No coating on the blade, just a flat battleship gray steel. I don't know if it's a collector or a user. I bought it off someone at Fort Campbell who said he bought it new from Duane Dwyer in San Marcos, CA. He didn't say when that was. I'm assuming, some years back.

Yes sir, any of the Strider/Buck knives are built like a tank and well made.

I am always on the lookout for more.

I see a number of poorly disguised counterfeits, from China, on Ebay. People seem willing to pay decent money even for those. I'm assuming that since they know what the Strider Buck knives are, they are smart enough to see them for what they are.
