Strider-Buck steel hardness

The Buck web page does not specify the hardness in the product description. The only mention I find is in the info center where it says Buck knives are 58-61 in general. The "choosing the right knife" section lists different steels, but says what the steel "can be" hardened to.

So what is the RC for the Strider-Bucks? "Strider-striders" are listed as 60-61 on their web page, which also has the Buck versions, but with the knives being made in different factories I would like to see it note that both are the same hardness.

If they aren't, which Buck models go up to 61? I want it/them. Or is the "can be" info supposed to mean that's what all Bucks of each steel really are?

Buck Striders are also heattreated by Paul Bos and are 60-61.

It really depends on the steel. BG-42 is a different hardness than ATS-34, which is a different hardness than S30V and so on.

Did I miss something? I dont believe S30V is used in Buck Striders yet. BG42 and ATS34 are heated to the same. I had an original B/S BG42 and still have a Mini B/S.

Cool. It sounds like a good replacement for my old AFCK which I have finally gotten bored with.

Buck Striders are heat treated the same as Strider's however we use ATS-34 and 420HC, they use S30V primarily.

Bos Treated ATS-34 - Rc 59-61
Bos Treated S30V - Rc 58-60
Bos Treated 420HC- Rc 58-60

Hope that helps

This helps a lot. Thanks.

I would really like to see Buck design some of its own G10/titanium/ats34 tactical knives. The Strider models are really nice, and I have already ordered one based on the good blade information here, but I don't see why Buck can't make more of that level using original Buck designs. A Lightning model with titanium liners and G10 slabs would be really cool.

Buck had the Taclite, similar in size to the 110. The Odyssey model had a G10 model.Dont know which steel was in it. And the Lightnings had a Carbon Fiber model as did the Odyssey.

Paul Bos replied once here to me about 819 hardness (CPM S30V) - he sad it is 59.5HRC.

Thanks, Vassili

110 with thicker blade out of ATS-34, titanium liners, AlTiNi coated, G10 handle will be perfect modern knife as it was 40 years ago in 1964.

Thanks, Vassili.
