I've seen numerous photos of striders and everyone seems to come to the same conclusion - that they're the beefiest of folders. I am very interested to see how a bull pivot looks disassembled. In cleaning or for whatever purpose, has anyone ever taken a strider apart and taken pictures? If so, please post some pictures or provide a link to this.

Also, what constitutes a strong pivot to you? Opinions?

This may help

Thanks for the youtube vids so-lo. That was very informative. That bull pivot shaft looks very thick... Wow. I wonder what's the diameter on that? 10mm?

Bull Pivots are not necessary on a folding knife. The lock will fail or the blade will break before the pivot does. The pivot of a knife is being supported by the blade, liners, and handle scales. Also remember that the bigger the pivot, the bigger the hole in the tang of the blade.

True, but it's nice knowing the blade will break before the pivot.

A knife is the sum of ALL it's parts. There is a lot more to a knife than its pivot.

+1.

You are right a knife is the sum of all parts. The blade stop mates to the frame for lateral stress like the xm-18 and umnumzaan. It has milled G10 that is one piece screwed to the titanium lock side, which also has the hinderer lock stop that is also a good idea. The blades hold an edge well. The only real failures i have seen on Striders are when the blade breaks, usually due to being used for prying.

The idea of the oversized pivot is really nice. The problem is that Strider does a questionable job of cutting the hole into the blade. I've seen the hole not round and with uneven cutting marks. That introduces unnecessary play in that area.
Other than that, the system works ok and I haven't had any real problems with it.
