Anyone know what the correct compound angle is on the Strider 880 folder. Sould I use the 40 or 30 degree on my Spyderco 204? Thanx.

Doc,
Sorry for the delay in responding to your post. The best thing to do is match the angle on the knife from the factory. I am not familiar with the Spyderco 204 system but what i have learned from the "Lansky" type is that the settings do not mean much. THey will give a diferent angle to every knife depending on the geometry of the blade. If you find a setting that matches the factory edge, and use it everytime, you should get excellent results.
Hope this helps,

Doc Mac, I think you'll find that the angle is closer to the 30 degree setting on the 204. I'm using an older 203 and the angle on that is too acute, (22 1/2 degrees/side), so the shallower angle appears to be the one to use.

you might want to try this:
Blacken the bevel with a magic marker. Set the white (fine) stones in one set of holes in the 204 and lightly run the blade across the stones, as if you were sharpening it, and see if the ink is removed from the edge or further up the bevel. Whichever setting polishes off the ink from the full bevel is the one to use.
