I am considering trading up my Strider SNG with double gunner grips and satin blade for a SMF nightmare grind custom.

my questions are:

is the grind practical - first thing I think i sthat the ridge will impede cutting (yes I will use the knife lightly)

is a SMF much bigger than an SNG

It's quite a bit bigger, personally the grind looks pretty interesting, but it lower functionality a fair bit. Not that a SnG can cut much anyways, but I sure do like mine.

Sounds kind like "trading up" a hot farm girl in overalls for a silicone-impregnated fashion victim in rubber and stiletto heels.

I thought Striders were supposed to be users.

I'd say the gunner SnG is damn near the pick of the litter. If you're itching for change, my $.02 would be to send the gunner to Krein for a little buffing. :)

very funny post my friend and one which makes a lot of sense to me a strange way !!

I like the SMF but with a drop point blade. Personally I wouldn't make that trade becuase the nightmare grind is silly, IMO. Here's a comparison pic to show the size difference, SMF on top and SNG in middle:

You already have one of the best Striders they make. I have one too. Nightmare grind is way cool, but if you are gonna use the knife, the drop point is the way to go. That said, do what you want and what makes you happy.

the sng is very sentimental to me but if I can trade up for something if greater value it will be good but all your posts have confirmed what I have been thinking - keep my sng and stop being a nob head !!

Well... I'm not saying I wouldn't want *both*, but definitely would not trade the overalls in on the spikes - in either case. :)

Mick's drifted off into some surprisingly interesting artwork over the years, but I still think his real contribution is in utility and utility-based aesthetics. JMO/YMMV :)

Yes the "ridge will impede cutting." Thats why I sold mine.

Not really, it does feel larger in the hand.. but its not really a huge differance. Cutting edge is a "tad" larger.

And a couple pix to help you out
