I really like the look of the Strider fixed blades but after doing a search here it seems they arent that popular. The folders are but the majority of the fixed blade threads were in the WTS ot WTT.

I was trying to find some opinions good or bad. Thanks.

Some people really like them, some people don't. I'm in the latter category because I don't care for the designs and think there are better choices for the money. Also, I don't need a knife/prybar...just a knife. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with them; just not my style.

I think they are well made butt ugly knives. They are popular with quite a few people, and have gained a reputation for being very tough. They also have an excellent warranty.

Since the Strider forum here closed and some acrimonious discussions of other matters took place, they don't get much real knife-oriented discussion here anymore, so it's hard to say how much interest there is overall. I think most of the folder action here is on customs, not the working knives.

IMO they are really not worth the money they try to get. They are great knives but IMO I can buy about three knives of equal quality for what one of theirs costs. I don't have much use for buying a name if I feel I can do better for my money. It does not bother me to watch the Jones's tail lights pull away.:)

Well i guess the folders are carried much easier than the fixed blades and most ppl. here are oriented towards folders. So that should be the main reason beside any other considering Strider in general.

My personal view is, there are cheaper and better large fixed blades out there even though Striders appear cool at first sight.

The neck knives are expensive but one or the other is worth a second sight.

I like the folders but not the fixed blades. I think the fixed blade designs are poorly thought out in most cases and perform poorly by design. They are also very expensive, and many have cheap, cord wrapped handles that come apart in real hard use fairly quickly. Not really worth it, for me.

Those knockedy-offs use 1055 which is an even tougher steel. Of course, at 3/16" to 1/4" thick, aren't all steels tough?

It seems to me that Busse has the FB market sewed up. Look what Glock did to the pistol world. Striders are damn good knives though.

Strider has it's aficianados, just like Busse, and lots of them are in the military. Not much time to hang out here and talk about it when doors need to be busted down. The design is oriented for hard use, with materials to match. It's expected the cordwrap may need to be replaced, and where else is paracord a commodity item but the military? Users tend to be more sophisticated about the work hazards and wear gloves, which works real well with the design, unlike most civilian knives which are oriented to bare hands.

As for 1055 being superior to S30V, I'll pass, but do admit in large knife use, it does quite well and is effective. I have seen pics of an underwater welders use of a Strider fixed blade as expedient grounding element, something a 1055 knife would accomplish for a while until it corroded from use. Stainless does have it's place.

Lots of knives will do a good job for a lot less - but since you're attracted to Strider, is it because the design features are a good fit for your intended use, or just for looks? Lots of us have bought knives we thought were ubercool, and found later they were less than what we needed in the field. It might help to define what you want it to do and go where that leads you.

The CS is a good indicator of the value, thinner than it looks, hard on gloveless hands, and carbon steel that rusts in storage, especially in vehicles. I might get one for my jeep but I wouldn't recommend it for camp use or such. Just not the right design.

I have Had a few striders myself...All the fixed designs are not anything I found to be worth their cost and were traded off with in a very short time.

The folders I have had in a few blade shapes are sng,smf...both are cool...IMO.

I like the sng,smf designs .They are also built very well.

I'm sure there're Strider lovers of both FB & folders, but I think someone said it well in an earlier post. Generally, you don't want a pry-bar for a knife, but being overbuilt is probably more of an advantage in a folder, than in a FB, especially for Military & LE use.

While FBs do definitely see very hard use (As a pry-bar even), I think one can find considerably less expensive FBs that are overbuilt. Personally, I think Ranger Knives (Just to name one) are just as usefull a FB as Striders, but quite a bit less expensive.

IMO, way overpriced. I recommend doing a search, there's a lot of info and mixed opinions out there. You can get a cord wrapped Ranger knife for around 1/4 of the price.

With tougher, easier to sharpen steel and a blade shape that is actually useful, at that.

Wasn't saying better; just tougher. Less wear-resistant, less corrosion-resistant, most likely softer given the pricepoint (and therefore more likely to roll its edge than an S30V Strider), but tougher.

I was wanting just a general all around fixed blade for hunting camping etc. I didnt want one of the big ones but a good one.

I ended up ordering a Fallkniven S1. Little over a 100.00 dollars and they seem to get good reviews after doing some research.

What kind of light is that on the right? Is the light on the left a custom koppo modification or did the light come like that? Thanks.
