A while back I had one of these folders but traded it to a good friend who uses the knife for his numerous camping trips. At the time I traded it it was still new and had not seen any use. This model had what some refer to as the "old-style" clip, or three screw clip.
I was talking to my buddy the other day and he mentioned how invaluable the AR was on his expeditions, and how he was glad I had parted with it. He went on to tell me that it had been used from slicing up dinner to spliting wood for kindling. He also said that except for the appearance of the blade, it was still as rock solid as the day I sold it to him. The liner still locks up in the same spot, the blade is unmoveable upon lockup, and the action is still buttery smooth (his words, not mine
)
So, all this talking got me to wishing I had never sold the AR in the first place. I set about looking for another one and found one. It arrived this morning. The new one has the coyote brown handles and the "new-style" clip. The only fault I can find has to do more with my preferences than anything else. The recent deep carry clips that I have gotten have really spoiled me. The clip on the AR allows an inch or so of handle to stick out of your pocket. I'm going to see if this can be rectified. Other than that the rest of this knife is everything I expected it to be. In fact it looks a little thicker in the liners than the old one I had(?) The way the blade closes down to be perfectly centered within the blade channel, the lockup of the liner to blade, the blade edge grinds, the smooth opening, and the fit of everything together, just makes me glad I went ahead and got another one of these folders. Now my buddy is inviting me on a camping trip in order to try out this new AR, and a couple others while we are at it, to see how it stacks up against the other AR. This should be a LOT of fun!
