Strider GB, or MT UT6

Do you want a very gadget-cool utility knife or a tactical folder built like a tank?

Two completely different animals.

The MT is more line an expensive letter opener. You won't see many people cutting steel retaining straps with a UT6. You won't see many UT6s with blade coating wore off and allot of sharpening marks and a rounded tip. Simple because while they have top notch fit and finish they won't stand up to what a Strider will. The UT6 is a great knife for what it is. Basicaly a show piece.

The Strider GB is a monster of a folder who's Liner lock is not much thinner than the blade, which is a monster in and of itself. You could ram the tip of a GB through a 50 gallon drup and the GB would laugh at you like you ae a sissyboy. You can cut steel straps and it will just need a quick touchup if that. That being said, the damn thing weighs a ton. It's heavy and large. I got rid of mine based on that fact alone. It was just too big for me to carry daily. It is however a knife that if i could only ever have one knife that my life would depend on Mick would have my order.

The UT6 might work with a suit and tie, a GB won't. A GB will work well when your lost in the woods for a few days, A UT6 might not.

My real complaint about each one is this.

Strider GB: for all that 4 inches of blade you have 2.85 inches of cutting edge. The top of the tanto point has a steeeeeep grind for tip strength and the large finger choil at the bottom doesn't help. The AR solves these problems

UT6: far to many moving parts. If it's can move it can foul up. Go ahead and set it in the bottom of a silty stream for a few minutes and see how well it fires.

Between those two I'd definitely say the GB for self defense. Although I give the UT a bit more credit that Harpy. You can hammer a UT through a steel drum, and I've used and kept mine in some gritty situations and haven't had failure yet. But again, I would classify the UT as more of a utility knife based on its size.

You might check the tactical forums here. There are a variety of self defense knives in all shapes and sizes, seemiingly one for every need.
