is there any measurable difference in a Strider with BOS heat treat & the later ones without it?

What is good about the BOS treatment & why did Strider stop using it?

I can only comment on the latter, Bos moved with Buck to Idaho, STrider stayed in Ca.

Buck moved for cheaper labor cost. They sold their property in CA for a reported 900M dollors.

I guess what I meant was , "Why is Bos heat treat good"? And, "Is there a negative in Strider now without it?"

I wouldn't mind living in rural Idaho.

Here is some info on Paul Bos from an older Buck brochure I found on the web:

HEAT-TREATMENT - The Paul Bos Way
Heat-treat is the process by which steel is prepared to make it suitable for knife blades. Buck works with state-of-the-art metallurgists who determine what heat and freezing processes are necessary to get the maximum performance from the different steels.
One of Buck’s great resources is Paul Bos, nationally known heat-treat authority, who has been heat-treating since 1956. He serves 70% of America’s custom knifemakers, as well as overseeing all of Buck Knives’ heat-treating. His shop is located in the Buck plant, where he is readily available to consult with Buck’s engineers. Paul’s link to Buck Knives goes back to his early years when he worked on custom knives for Al Buck in the late ‘50s. Clearly, the Paul Bos touch is an integral part of Buck’s great blades.

Paul is the best there is in the knife heat treating biz. His customers are a who's who of the knifemaking world. From what I understand it was too expensive and time consuming for Strider to ship knives back and forth, so Paul set them up with a company he used to work with years ago in the aerospace industry.

Also, where Buck moved is not some po-dunk town. N. Idaho is one of the fastest growing area's in the US... Coeur D'Alene which is right next to Post Falls has very fine dining, and a 4 star resort on the lake. Spokane Wa. is just a stones throw away and has everything any big city would have.
Im leaving So Cal for North Idaho as soon as possible and I CANNOT WAIT to be out of this godforsaken state, and living in one of the most beautifull places in the world.

Why would anyone move to Idaho? (answer below)

Why would anyone stay in Calafornia?
Because I like living here. What is in Idaho? I like living in a city with some of the best restaurants in the world.

FWIW, I live in California's Bay Area, and while the food is good, it's not good enough to overshadow a lot of what's wrong with this state. I've lived in France, so I know a thing or two about "the best restaurants," but having said that, I'd have to disagree with you about the best restaurants only being found in cities in California. The best Vietnamese and Mediterranean restaurants I've ever been to were in Albuquerque, NM, of all places, not in the Bay Area!

When you make a statement as stupid as,
Why would anyone move to Idaho?
, prepare to defend it, and be prepared to use more than good restaurants to do so. I doubt the location of Buck Knives is contingent upon their culinary preferences. ;)

Well there is French Laundry, Gary Danko, Chez Panisse for the high end and a million hole in the wall Chinese/Vietnamese/Korean restaurants to choose from. I wasn't being entirely serious about Idaho though I can understand moving there when you want to retire.

I hear you. I suspect Buck's move was purely based on ecconomics, and perhaps a desire to be associated with "the heartland."

I have been in NV for 22 years and have been to Calif 3 times. That was enuff for me. Beautiful place , but some of the most screwed up laws there are.

I would choose Idaho over NV , except for that liquid sunshine they get and that fluffy white stuff they get ;)

Paul Bos , not only the best in the HT biz , he is also one of the most down to earth good guys there is.

Idaho seems like a pretty nice place to me. Nevada hasn't been a bad place to grow up in though.

i would prefer idaho to cali any day of the week and 2X on sunday, i personally have had 2 buds move outta cali due to the weapons laws (1 to TX, 1 to alaska).

buck musta had a LOT of property to get $900 million outta it lol, if i could make some $$ like that i woulld quit the knife biz and move to bora bora or someplace lol.
