Strider impressions

The day that my Strider was to come via UPS
was a slow one at work. It seemed that everytime I looked at the clock it was a few minutes earlier than the time before. (It was, and my boss swears he will never do that again!) Anyways, when I got home there was a package waiting for me from 1SKS. I greedily grab the package and go to the bedroom to see
what might be inside. Upon opening the box I see a very disappointing looking Buck Knives box! What the heck? Did they ship a pen knife
by mistake? (All my 110 boxes are big things, could almost stuff a bayonet in one of them.) I looked at the box and it indeed said
"Strider Tactical 880". So, slowly, I opened the end flap of the little box...

...And there it was! My Strider in BG-42!!!

... I've been playing around with it for a couple days and I like it very much.

In fact the only thing I do not like is the right-handed thumb stud. Hey guys, don't ya think there are any left-handed Buck entheusiasts out there?

Hey...
Cool post. Glad for both the excitement and the satisfaction.
As far as your thumb stud, just unscrew the thing and put it on the other side. Insta-lefty!

Enjoy your knife.

Hehehe...yeah, I knew that.

Seriously, even after getting the screw loose it just spun in the hole. Took me a few seconds to figure out that the thumb stud was not a one piece affair and actually was held in place by a screw on the other side. Guess the black color of the screw opposed to the silver of the stud should have tipped me off. LOL!

To look at the knife you would think it would be very uncomfortable to hold. Not at all. (Although I haven't really used it yet.) It kinda imparts a feeling that it will feel like a brick in your hand, when that is just not true.
The lock-up on the blade is very tight, there is no movement or slop in the blade when locked, or unlocked. Yet it is a very smooth operating knife. Gotta chalk it up to good design and materials. Oh, yeah. Buck craftsmanship!!!
The blade now, that is one huge piece of steel! Bet there won't be many sent back with broken tips.

Sure would like to see one with a spear point blade. Hmmmm...wonder how hard it would be to modify one of the ATS-34 blades? Certainly enough steel there...

Thanks to Buck and the Strider guys for a knife that is a joy to own.

Thanks for your input on my dilemma, Mick. Sometimes I just gotta wonder where my brain is at.

Ok guys I had the same idea, to change the strider to a lefty. My first attempt to lossen up the thumb stud resulted in my allen wrench with a new shape like a licorice candy stick. I tried this on both of my striders (one for work, one for put away) So I figured maybe they used locktite, used a electric soldering iron to heat up the stud, no luck, then soaked the end in actone still no luck. Simple right, just lossen up the stud. I don't want to do anything really rash where I am leaving vise marks on the stud. There is nothing weak about this knife! Going to town and get a new set of wrenches. Suggestions?

I used a pair of smooth jawed pliers and wrapped a piece of scrap suede around the stud to hold it secure. Came out fine with no marks on the stud. There was some locktite on the screw, by the way.

First time I tried unscrewing mine it had the same effect on my allen wrench.

Thanks Dave, I finally got-round-to-it. Your idea worked great. had to use a little more heat, that helped with the locktite.

I like the way it looks. Is it a chisel ground knife or what? Is it worth the price tag?
Not sure, but I may look into getting one, after I get a SIFU that is.

Hi Roy.

The blade is double, not chisel ground.

Was it worth the price? To me it was.
