Just wondering about the quality of Strider Knives... particularly the AR & GB series. I like the style and size of both knives but have heard mixed reviews and want more info before I buy. Help appreciated.:D

They're built like a tank, and can probably handle more abuse than just about any other folder out there.

I have an AR in S30V, and besides being tough it's action is super smooth. You really won't regret getting one :D

Striders are as tough and durable as they come, and they come with a lifetime guarantee. The fit and finish on my AR is excellent, and it it is very solid. Hell, I could probably use it as a prybar if I wanted to, but I don't want to. I've been carrying this blade every day and, although it is very big, it is a pretty easy carry.

The heat treat Strider uses is the best in the industry (Paul Bos). I guess it all depends on whether ot not you like their designs. I just picked up a Dwyer (Strider) D-9, which is about the same size as a Randall #14, except that I feel that the blade is a LOT tougher than the Randall (I have a Randall #14), and I could beat the hell out of it a lot more. I blunted the tip of my #14 years ago when I banged it into some steel. It blunted fairly easily (I think my Randall blade is 440B). The Strider would probably endure a lot more pounding before it blunted. The steel and heat treat is much better.

Manila Folder:

I'm interested in hearing more about the "mixed reviews" you've heard/read. Please elaborate.

Uh, I too would like to know about these "mixed reviews" you claim to have heard. If you mean mixed like, one person says "awesome" and another says "indestructible" and perhaps another says "built for the sole purpose of dismantling ANYTHING" well, then yes, you have heard mixed reviews.

I have a BT (large fixed blade) and I LOVE it! I want a GB now, too!

I suppose if you got an AR to peel grapes you might be somewhat dissatisfied...however, if your need was to chop down a telephone pole, you would likely be pleased with your Strider. ;)

This might qualify as a "mixed review".

Well it could be that Manila Folder has heard reviews of the Buck/striders. These products has often recieved "mixed reviews".

I was introduced to them by buying a Buck mini-Strider. Honestly, I was not in love with the way it looked, but it never failed and I did really ugly cutting with it. I did not care for the blunt front tanto edge. I had other things to cut with and I gave the knife to Eric Chang.

Eric is a young custom knife maker, and I have one of his Bowies. In his job he uses a work knife like many of you use and abuse screwdrivers. In short, he beat the crap out of the knife and you cannot really tell the thing has lived a tough life.

Based on this and Strider's fine reputation, I put myself on the waiting list for an AR. After it comes I'm thinning out my EDC's. Like Eric, I want an EDC I don't have to baby and their warranty is one of my big decision makers.

I have never read a thread from anyone at anytime that had a bad thing to say about the Striders or the Buck version, other than to say that the Bucks are ugly. This is a great knife line and you will enjoy your purchase.
