strider lockup problem

Try tightening the pivot a little. Other then that the only thing you can do to fix it is to take it apart and bend the lockbar over a little more. Which I wouldn't do myself. Striders fix is going to be to put a cap on the locking side thumb stud making it a little thicker so the blade will sit a tiny bit more closed when locked open. That will make the lockup early and tight.

A good temp. Fix is to take some clear tape and wrap it around the locking side stud and cut it off flush. You really won't notice it there unless you look for it.

Do the tape thing and use it till it gets dull then send it in to them for a sharpening and lock adjustment. Costs about $30 though. But try tightning the pivot first

easier fix: sell it, buy something that isn't a strider.

Just curious how long have you had the Strider? It looks to me like the lockbar is worn out and in that case there really isnt much you can do other than to send it in and pray like hell that they do something. I think this is kinda common because many people have to "break in" Striders before it gets comfortable to use and thus causing alot of pre-mature wear to the lockbar and detent. Tightening the pivot wont accomplish anything and thats really just a temporary fix to hide the worn out lockbar.

That's a normal strider lockup don't let it bother you. As for them putting a cap on the stud, I have never heard that before . I think they install a bigger stud to remedy the problem, someone correct me if I'm wrong though .

I've never had a Strider lockup like that, and I wouldn't call it "normal."

That was my take on it, as well.

I guess you got all the good ones then :D iv had two and one had the same play as in the OP's did and one the lock hit the g10 side ! Also strider is notorious for having sloppy lockups. As for saying it's normal that was a little thing called SARCASM !!!!

A $300 plus folder with a lousy lock-up? I'd send it back. I was thinking of an SNG to add to the collection, but this post confirms what others have told me about Strider...great blade, but somewhat inconsistent QC. A shame.

I loled because its so true. I have a love/hate relationship with my SNG...

Smitty-
Did you get that knife new or through a trade or forums somewhere? I would also say that it does not seem normal. I'm not a huge Strider fan per se, I like the knives I have (SnG & PT both CC version), and mine (SnG) does not do that. I just checked while writing this post. I would call & email Strider and ask them to watch teh video and explain the issue over the phone. I bought my knives from a guy on the exchange here, and he was straight up about both knives. They were absolutely new, he did not even use them - I'm lucky I guess.

Your wrong lol. They do weld? A cap on the locking side stud.

As for the other post saying there is no fix... Basically what is happening is the lock bar is going as far as it is set to go by Strider and it still doesn't come in full contact with the blade. So they could either bend the lockbar so it does make full contact or put a sleeve on the stud.

Either way it does suck to ship it to them as it costs about $30 bucks

I had Benchmade MPR doing exactly the same thing as this Strider. I think this play is also caused by the angle of the blade tang at the end of the locking surface. I don't think that bending the lockbar will help much. There still will be some play, just not as evident. I think blade stop needs to be enlarged. I don't know how Strider does this, but I would think that removing the old stud and press fitting a bit bigger one would be a perfect fix.

Back to that Benchmade MPR. I'm very happy with the hex design of the blade stop. After taking knife apart and turning blade stop to where a bit thicker side makes contact with blade, I fixed the same kind of play. Now it is absolutely perfect. I wish ALL makers adopt the same stop pin design. It is so much easier to take the knife apart and turn the pin, rather then dealing with sending the knife in for repair.

Same with my MPR, what a nicely built little knife.

I do get the impression that alot of Strider hate comes from the owner's questionable claims of his military service but that aside, the knives are pretty built (and yes they do appear to take awhile to break in). I can't see why a company like Strider wouldn't just take care of this issue on their dollar with shipping included. I would at least try to call them about it.

Ive seen one with the larger cap. It looks like cheap crap to me. If mine ever comes to the point where it needs a larger cap then I'd rather break the knife in half or something else to warrant a compete replacement knife.
