Strider Outsourcing Scales?

I recently made a trade for a Strider SnG on the forums and although I was told it was never used or carried, the action felt extremely gritty and there was nasty black stuff around and in the pivot. So of course I couldn’t help myself and I took it apart to clean it and see if I could get the action feeling better. I was quite surprised to see that the scales had VZ Grips logo on them with their website on the underside. I did my research and can’t find anything on if strider outsources his scales but I have compared mine to pictures on Mick Striders website and they match up 100%, every line is the same. Anyone know something I don’t? Thanks for any input!

Unless you bought the SnG M45 collaboration between Strider and VZ, these are not the original scales.

While that in itself is not necessarily bad (VZ makes good stuff, I have several of their grips on my 1911's), the issue is how this transaction went down and how it was presented to you.

Whoever you bought the knife from may have not been the original owner, and thought that everything was "new". Or you bought a knife that was misrepresented intentionally, for whatever reasons. Or you have the real-deal M45 SnG.

Sorry, you've bought a used knife that someone put aftermarket VZ Grip scales on.

Yeah, it’s fine, the rest of the knife looks legit, The scales match the factory ones perfectly. The thing is I can’t find these grips sold from VZ anywhere, all the lines make it look like they were made from the exact same mold as factory.

On a somewhat related topic, I just received my sng scale from VZ today. I had the original plain lego grip.
The vz scale is very well made. Tolerances were tight and took some finesse to install, but overall I am very happy with them

Yeah, I will be purchasing some from them soon. I don’t even want to carry this knife because it feels like there’s a cheese grater in my pocket. I’m not sure why they chose to go with such an overly aggressive and sharp texture but it’s way too much. I did some heavier tasks with it the other day in the yard, (cut a few small branches coming through my fence) and I had to put it away because it was literally painful to use. Still love it, but don’t want to carry it.

The vz grips are pretty sharp, definitely far more than a standard lego grip

Strider has been using the VZ scales on their recent runs of SnG's. Yours is good to go and the scale is stock.

Strider has been using the VZ scales on their recent runs of SnG's. If yours is a newer knife under the "M. Strider" banner and not the old "Strider" it's probably good to go. Any pics of the front of the scale or the knife together?
Thanks for the response. I got it figured out shortly after I first posted this. It’s legit. I’ll be replacing the scales most likely with different VZ grips or selling the knife because the scales are absurdly sharp. I keep my Knipex pliers and pry bar in my knife pocket as well and every time I reach my hand in it scrapes my hand to the point where it’s nearly bleeding 😂 love the knife other than the pain it brings physically… also, there’s a picture of it put together in my post, just scroll over.

Yeah, I saw the other pics after I posted so I edited my response after I saw them. I agree that the scales are pretty sharp. I would think they would smooth out with use, but that may take some time or could hit it very lightly with some fine grip sandpaper.
