This knife came to me as a passaround. I do not know the model. The blade does say BG-42 with Boss Heat treat. I understand that this knife had some tip damage that was repair so it is an undisclosed measure shorter than it came from Strider. Thanks in advance to Spark, Daniel, and Bladeforums for the chance to experience this knife.

Okay. After two days I have some initial impressions and the pix I wrote I was going to take. So like many in this passaround, the knife is a bit bigger/thicker than I am in the practice of carrying. Now, that would not hinder me from ever owning one of these, I would just need to have an anticipated need/role it could play.

So here’s some out of the box/post stropping pix:

I really liked how morrowj packaged this knife. Here is how it came to me:

This is again, substantially thicker handle and blade than I am familiar with for a folder. The texture on the G10 scales is really nice. The clip is pretty typical to what I am familiar with on other brands. The kydex sheath with tech lok is how I have chosen to carry. I am using this knife for all of my EDC needs even though, I still carry all of my usual carry items. The BG-42 steel strops well. If needed, I will do a more proper sharpening I will provide more observations on how that goes. This is a pretty thick edge averaging around 0.035 behind the cutting edge. This may be due to the blade being reground to fix a broken tip in a previous passaround. I do not have any previous experience with Striders, but this is a lot of fun to try out. I am carrying this little fella everywhere I go!

Next are my standard shots:

The blade is quite heavy so it snaps open pretty easily with a little wrist flick. The distance from the pivot point to the thumb stud is a bit longer than I like, but I am adapting easily. This is the most comfortable thumb stud I have used in a long time by the way. 

Here are some shots with friends for size comparison. The Opinel is a #12 and the two Spydercos used in the pix are the Military for handle spine thickness and the Tenacious for profile size comparison.

It is borderline comical to see me use this for my EDC tasks right now. Opening bags of diapers, cutting up baby carrots, and slicing the bark off of small sticks in the yard for our oldest son (21 months) to carry around and whack into other things like trees, bushes, and last year’s black walnuts that have not been purged from the yard.

Anyway, I will try to get some shots of the knife in use and perhaps show it to a couple of friends for their reactions.

Until then, cheers.

I have a couple of AR's, and love to edc them at times, gotta spread carry time around you know, I carry mine in my right front pocket because I made a deep carry pocket clip for it. That is a good review and I really enjoyed the pictures. I like the kydex rig for the AR, any idea where it came from?

Sorry cutter17,

I have not had any replies to your question on the passaround thread.

Try rivercitysheaths or perhaps one of the makers here on BF.

Good luck,

Doug

Okay it is update time.

I found out that EDC tasks are not easy or interesting to photograph. So I will not waste bandwidth or storage space with dull pix.

I used the knife for every EDC task I encountered. The Strider opened the mail, cut up some cardboard, removed some bark from a stick for my son, cut up a baby carrot, helped me make some dividers in my three ring binder cook book, opened diaper packages, cut string, etc.

Overall this is a very large handle and relatively small cutting edge. The design is very over build for my daily tasks, but it has been a blast to carry and get reactions. It has gone to the grocery store, Walmart, Church, friends houses, a hospital and many other places I can not remember. I have been very impressed with the ease of deployment of the blade, and in the kydex sheath that I can't seem to find any information on so far. I have really enjoyed carrying this horizontally on my belt. It has been very secure with no unintentional or accidental deployments from the sheath. I did clip the knife in a pocket one day and it worked fine that way, but I buy pants with really big pockets. Overall, this has been a wonderful chance to play with a Strider. I have no negative feelings toward this knife and if I won one in a giveaway I would be super excited. Realistically I will probably never buy/own a Strider but I understand why people go crazy for them. It is a really well built folder that inspires a great deal of confidence for any task. The knife will ship out tomorrow to the next participant.

Best wishes to all!

Doug
