I may have a trade in the works, my small Sebe for a Strider PT. I don't know much about Strider, or the PT, with the exception of the standard specs, and unfortunately I can't use the search function. Anyways I'm interested in the fit, finish, and durability of the knife. Also the knife is fairly small at 6.75 OAL, how does it fit in the hand? It's use will be moderate in the construction industry, but I want something bulletproof.

Thanks
Dave

Dave, if you go into the advanced search function on Google and type "bladeforums.com" as your search domain, you can effectively search Bladeforums for any info you need. Give it a try.

Dave it fits the hand a little better than the Small Sebenza but the fit and finish is not on par with the Seb. Overall its gets high marks for function. I could not make it fit my hand without discomfort in normal grip though and that was why I sold my own PT. The design of the rear part of the handle by the lanyard area and those aggressive grooves did more to make it uncomfortable to use for me than they did to aid any grip. My hands are big though. I could see where some would like it but I think they must have smaller hands than I do. If you can palm a basketball like me it may not suit you. If not it may just be fine.

There are things about the PT that I like over the Sebenza. The blade shape for one, at least on the one I had which was the more spear looking blade and not the tanto. I like the lock stabablizer, and I also rather like the overall appearance with the heat coloring. I can live without the tiger stripes but those are ok too. Perhaps the best thing about the Strider folders though is the choil for choking up on the blade to get a better feel for the point when working with the tip third of the blade. It adds safety to it as well.

About the only other area you'll find that is not on par with the Sebenza is in the foot print of the lock contact. Of course this can be said for all others I've compared to the Sebenza. Idealy makers shoot for the lock to contact the blade at the bottom of the lock as far from the centerline of the pivot as possible on two sides. This can be done so that its as far from the centerline as possible with as much surface area as possible to meet the blade and not allow blade roll and no one does this better than Reeves consistantly. The PT lock will not wear as well as the Sebenza lock over the long haul and its all due to the amount of surface area of the lock that is actually contacting the blade and nothing else. You can see more of what I'm referring to on that here if you like.

Thats my take on it since you asked. I think its a fine little folder. It sure has a lot of good going for it and many folks love the thing and many woman do also. Give it a shot you may just fall in love.

IMHO......Fit and finish was better than on the PT than any other Strider I owned (14 at one time) and I preferred the grip to the small Sebenza, it was more ergonomic, and less likely to slip out of hand. But, theres no such thing as a "bulletproof" folder no matter what some may say, if fact it doesn't feel quite as sturdy as the small sebenza, since the cut out is thinner. But in a folding knife that small who cares? It's a great pocket knife, and as long as you are not trying to baton it, it will handle whatever cutting needs you have no problem.

Yeah all that writing and I forgot another big plus for the PT. Well all Strider folders actually. The Strider designs are very well suited to folks that are inclined to wear gloves. They are oversized so you can usually manipulate them with a lot more ease than other folders so if thats important to you it may be a huge selling point also.

The PT is very grippy in the hands , either gloved , or wet/cold . I have both and prefer the PT . Grippyer , an tuffer , the PT is a small Tactical folder , the small Sebbie is a gents folder .

I find that the PT fits my medium sized hand much better than my small sebbie, but only when I put my index finger in the choil. I find the handle is too small to be comfortable if you try and keep all four fingers on the G-10.

The PT feels like a smaller knife and has a shorter cutting edge because of the choil. I also find it easier to open and close one-handed than the sebbie. (The pocket clip on the sebbie sits on the locking part of teh frame-lock which helps to keep it locked up I guess, but can make it difficult to close.)

The sebbie feels more solid to me but the PT is still sturdy.

I find I carry the PT more than the sebbie, mostly because of the ease of opening, better fit to my hand and the heat-striped titanium which gives it a bit more presence than the understated sebbie.

If you're working with gloves, I would suggest something a bit bigger.

Just my $0.02. Hope it's of some use.
