Actually, I thought the design was an improvement, too bad Strider doesn't tell anyone and still has spanner grooves on the female pivot. I had heard of a couple of SNG's that had smooth grooveless pivots. Supposed to be a manufacturing/supply problem; I wonder.
It wasn't cross hatch knurling, but parallel ridges on pivot that was a tight press fit into G10. Impossible to turn with flat screwdriver after pivot screw removed. In desperation I tried tapping it out and out it came. Not a bad design, but I wonder how many G10 scales and/or pivots will be ruined. If they left off the spanner grooves, you could figure it out.
No excuse for sloppy Torx screw sockets. Strider says they outsource screws and pivot parts. Should pay more attention to purchasing. If you take the next size T driver and file/grind it flat and sharp, you will be able to salvage the screw. Make sure grooved side of pivot is resting on block of wood and start tapping driver into screw, the sharp edges are cutting a new socket. This has worked for myself and others.
In regards to my Elson, once bitten, twice shy. There were Two 3 inchers and one 4 incher on his table. The 3 in were buttery smooth with no play, while the larger one was awful. Don't know why a custom knife maker would put this on his table. Obvious why only knife left.
Guy standing behind me thought my PT CC was stunning and had attitude. I sold him the PT on the spot, picked the best of the 3 inchers and walked away happy. Got home, took it apart to see if Eric knew wat he was doing ,lubed it and still happy.
