Strider PT vs. SNG?

Hey guys. I have a few questions. I have recently found Striders to be very nice looking, after years of seeing them and never really loving them. So, for some reason I find the need to finally own one for edc purposes.
So, this leads me to a few questions Im hoping you guys can steer me in the right direction.
It seems every website that sells Striders are always sold out. So,
1. Is there any good places to buy a SNG or PT that are in stock brand new and a reputable dealer? Or am I only going to find one on the exchange?
2. I hear these knives develop blade play due to the lock up(although maybe not the new PT?) so this is why Im looking at buying brand new and not used. And i will send it back to the dealer to be fixed if any play occurs that is not acceptable, since these are expensive knives.
3. Do you prefer the SNG or the PT for edc? And of course, WHY?

Thanks a lot guys, I find myself thinking about this knife now. I finally need to pull the trigger on one, so please feel free to point me in the right direction.
And, thanks in advance for any suggestions and opinions on this knife.

Dave

SNG for me but only becasue I like larger knives (love my SMF's also) but PT is a great start and a great knife if you like smaller blades.

I have a lego SNG(new lockup) and 2 CC PT's ( 1old and 1 new lockup) and all 3 are extremely solid with no play at all. I do prefer the CC PT as my EDC as it is super light and slids in right next to my wallet no problem. If you have bigger hands then a SNG would possibly be better. As for where to get one I got my last PT about a month ago from TNK so not sure if they stil have them. If im not carrying my PT then its my small seb they battle it out alot lol

You can buy NEW from MonkeyEdge or KnifeArt easily enough.
The sng is a nice carry size and for general use.
The PT is very small.
Two models of PT. The CC smooth model does NOT have a clip and CANNOT be fitted for one.
The LEGO scaled PT has a clip.
Both are nice knives, although I'd much prefer a Sng, and I've had a BUNCH of Striders in four models.

Can anyone elaborate on the lockups? I hear that some lock ups suck, but others swear by theirs. Am i better going with a New lock up knife? And excuse my ignorance, but can you tell me what LEGo means? I understand the cc means concealed carry so its smoother. And I know gg means the grips that tear up everyone's pockets. So, please guys, any more info please feel free to let it out. I thought Busse knives were elaborate enough with their abbreviations and such, but now Striders are another story it seems.

Which models (lego,cc,gg,etc. whatever else is out there for a good price) do you guys prefer? Thanks again. I will be checking back but Im at work right now so it might be a few hours. Thanks again guys for the patience.

I like all sizes of knives, but favor the larger ones most of the time and would go with the Sng. If you had the option I would say Smf as I prefer that size even more.

Lego SNG seems best to me of your options, although since you are torn between SNG and PT I'd say look at the SJ75. Sweet and smooth. Good cutting edge to handle ratio as well.

Edited to add. The CC and GG seem thin on the SNG size. Lego just seems right.

The Pt is very small, I sent it back. I like the Sng and consider it to be a midsized folder. None of mine have any blade play. My Sng had some sticky lockup and it never broke in. I took the knife apart and when I put it back together the lock bar disengaged perfactly from the blade tang. I have many tactical folders and my Sng is a favorite.

The old style lock up has a curved face giving the possibility of blade play when it wears down. The new lock up is slightly angled and flat making its rate of wear much slower and more even giving the knife a much longer life.

The term LEGO refers to the standard G10 version of each knife its the blocky looking one. It is the middle ground on grip between the CC and the gunner grip models.

I prefer the CC models since they slide in and out of the pocket much better and have less rough edges that poke you while sitting.

Wow, thanks for those replies. Yes, Im still deciding between the PT and SNG, but I am going to stay away from the gg.
I like the look of the smooth ones more anyway. Now, I will be looking for a new lockup style either way, so thanks for explaining.

So, i will be checking out those sites shortly to see what stock they have left. I was really leaning towards the SNG cc, but for some reason i am leaning towards a smaller blade for edc this time. Im just wondering, like some of you say, if its a bit too small though. However i don't have huge hands so it might be worth it for me. When im looking at those sites, how do I know if the knife is the old lockup or new? Is it recognizable by looking at it? I can picture what your saying about rounded lock up compared to the newer flatter one.

How about steel choice? What is your favorite steel?

And, how hard is it to change out the grips from lets say Lego to CC if I wanted to some day? OR is this not possible.

Thanks again for all the help, I am getting more and more excited about this knife every hour that Im reading about them.

If you are looking at PTs then look for the pivot with the 3 dots they are all new lockup. For the SNG you can always email/call and ask. I don't think you can switch scales from lego to CC I think the hardware is shorter on the CC models do to the curved handle. As for blade steel I really like the CPM154(seems to sharpen easier and hold it a bit longer)
on my SNG but the s30v on the PTs is also extremely well done they hold a great edge.

Ill post some comparison pics once I get a chance

Here are my PTcc and SNG with my small sebenza and delica for size comparison, you can also see what the Lego SNG looks like

I like the SnG Lego best for hard use, but I only have a Double gunner grip now. They all have the same lock strength (cc, dgg, lego). Any steel they use will have an optimal heat treat. Mine is in micromelt PD-1. Basically, it's 3v from a different company. It holds an edge very well. The dgg and cc models carry easiest. Once the clip loosened up a little the dgg doesn't tear my pockets up, because I lift it out by pulling up and out on the clip. I recommend getting the full flat grind because it cuts better period. If you ever have a problem with it send it back to Strider not the dealer. The PT is just way to small for me. I've had about 5 with the new lockup and they were all solid. None developed play. If I am seeing this right, it seems the PT does not have the lock bar stop that can be dressed up with a custom ano'd one?
Only the SMF and SNG have the bar stop?

The PT (mine is CC) is a really neat gadget and a nice knife for sure but I pretty much only carry mine if it's accompanying a larger fixed blade. I will say though it pretty much completely disappears in the pocket. The SnG is a great "one knife" to have.

So, IMO, to answer the question of "which one?," I would say that the SnG is more useful so that is my choice!
