Strider PT with different sized stop pins on either side?

While the knife looks legit, I would suspect someone monkeyed with the studs.

All the PT's I have seen ( a dozen or so) have cylindrical studs - no taper or bevel to them at all, except for a very slight rounding of the edge (no where near as round as yours).

Did you buy this NEW from the dealer?

They did not do all the same, but on many the stop pin is only on the lock side. The scale side (originally G10)did not touch. As long as the lock is functioning properly, not a problem. They also do some repairs by enlarging the stop pin on lock side.

Yes I purchased it new from an authorized dealer who I’ve dealt with in the past and they have a great rep. I suppose I’ll reach out to him and see what he says.

As far as I know this as a new from strider knife and not preowned

After looking at some photos(rather than memory), they have used both style of stop pins(pins)

These days Strider no longer makes the cylindrical blade stops that Shane showed a picture of. All of them are radiused and much smaller like the ones on your PT.

I’m not familiar with the new construction of the PT’s but it looks like the stud is supposed to be that way similar to how Peter described above. For a very long time the blade stop only contacted the lock side of the frame, they may be returning to that style. The pin is probably stepped to make construction easier

Indeed, I have not kept up with what Strider is doing lately.

I would agree that the studs look nothing like the original generations, but I don't what has happened in the last 15-20 years.

As mentioned, I would not worry about it assuming your knife lock-up correctly. :)

Yeah, I’m hoping you’re right, would they have maybe put a cap over the larger pin to adjust for lock stick or something? I think I saw a post about that but can’t find it now. It doesn’t look like someone ground the lock side pin after the fact, it’s not down to raw metal. After opening and closing it a bunch of times the only side that is leaving a mark on the frame from the pin so far is on the show side where the larger pin seems to be.

Seems to lock up just fine so probably fine like you said. I just found it odd and wonder if it’s normal or if they had to adjust something during manufacturing.

The cap over the stop pin thing is 100% incorrect, it’s been debunked by Mick and Josh many times. If a knife needs a new stop pin to adjust lockup issues, the old one is removed and a new one is machined from scratch to the measurements necessary to adjust for the lockup. The lockside of the pin will always be bigger in this case of course

It’s normal on most striders, regardless of model. It is also normal to see stop pins making contact with only one scale, which more often will favor the ti side, XL’s and msc’s stop pins will typically make contact with both sides.
