I'm carrying and using my Tuff Lite quite a bit these days, and am finding the edge retention isn't to my liking ( although it does sharpen pretty easily ) so ice been eyeing the SJ75 as a potential replacement if I can get a good deal on one. As an alternate option, can the tuff lite be rebladed? It has pin construction, so I'm bot sure how difficult/expensive that would be as I'm looking at steels like m390/204P/elmax.

So, what are your thoughts and experiences on the matter?

I'm actually just getting in a SJ75 and also own the tuff lite as my primary beater (poorman's strider or dalibor Pollux imo) Would be interesting to see a reblade on the tuff lite..along with G10 scales. That alongside the triad lock would make it a entirely new beast. Please update if you follow through with the reblade. I've seen a user around on a thread that 'tuffthumbz' started who rebladed several of his cheaper options with rwl34.

If you're prepared to spend SJ75 money, maybe consider a custom build?

What are the chances of me getting something with the build quality of an SJ75 in that price range? I've seen them for as cheap as 175...

Alan is an excellent knife-maker. I've known him for quite a while, and he is a superb builder. I only have one of his knives, and it is great.
However, as a general statement, IF the SJ75 or any other "standard production knife" fits your needs, I would think that would be the way to go. It is already a build quality that you know and approve of...and one would expect a production knife to save some money over a custom. OTOH, IF YOU CANNOT find a production knife that meets your expectations,...then, of course, call Alan or a different custom builder of your choice.
