Strider SNG blade suppose to be off center?

So I purchased a Strider SNG DGG last month and really like it aside from two things. First the lock up was initially painfully sticky but that has since broken in nicely. However, the second issue is that the blade is not centered. While I have heard that many of the SNG's people are getting arent centered this still bothered me for almost a 500$ knife. I sent Strider an email about the issue and was given this response:

"As far as blade centering goes on the GG model folders the blade usually tends to be more on one side than the other because of the design of the knife so as long as the knife locks up good and solid the blade not being centered will not affect the performance of the knife. There is more material removed from the Ti side of the knife so for a solid lock up without having the blade “scrape” it usually favors one side this is the way it was designed"

Can anyone shine some light on this? Is this rep full of BS to avoid me sending it back for a replacement or is what hes saying make sense?

Thanks

Mine's centered, but I have other knives with off-centered blades that work fine.

I've had at least ten Striders; basically, they were centered. However, most of this is just "adjustment" and can be taken care of without much work and zero expense. Heck, some Sebenzas do that also. I am picky, though, and perhaps one of our posters has a video reference or other advice to help you out on this.

I am a Striderhollic. I need a pic first. There can be adjustments you can make but I need to see a pic.

Post a pic like this

I have some nice high quality shots like those i just took but am not familiar with posting pictures as a url format.

I remember going to a very popular and one of my favorite local knife shops here in So Cal to look around and possibly get me an SNG. Of the six SNG's they had in their inventory, four of the blades were off center. This was before I found out that Mickey-Boy is a complete BS artist and I was actually thinking of buying a Strider product.

Luckily, I dodged that bullet and avoided getting one of his knives when I realised at the store that it was very apparent, at least in my eyes, that Strider's quality control for centering knife blades seemed to be non-existent.

And even though there were two of the six knives with centered blades available, actually very good looking SNG's with the green scales, the fact that four of the six were so badly off center really turned me off to their product.

Couple points I think

One a knife can work fine without a centered blade

and two and this isn't a slam, but it seems like you would've done a bit of research before such a big purchase and known that Striders aren't always cosmetically perfect? If you didn't already know then sorry, the knife can still work fine, and you can also just try twisting the bull pivot with fingers, it helps on tension and could possibly help if blade isn't too far out

Oddly enough out of maybe 10 Striders I have owned from the SJ75 to the SFM, all have been perfect.
Just a few more pics to back up i am not blowing smoke. How is it I always get perfect specimens????
Email me and send me a pic Brandog, I will see if I can help you out. I need to see a pic.

Is off centered blades a visual issue or functional? Also, its not the owners fault the balde is off center, that is on the maker...

My PT wasn't centered. Funny thing is, it didn't affect how it functioned at all. Then I took it apart to clean it (after 5+ years), put it back together and tightened it, and it was centered.

Is it really that big of a deal? I mean as long as it isn't rubbing and is close enough it doesn't affect the function of the knife, which is, after all, the point of having the knife, right?

I have 4 Striders. One DDG SnG a Lego SnG, and two PT's. All are perfectly centered. If they weren't I wouldn't consider it a big deal as they can be adjusted. Blade centering does not affect the performance of the knife but I can understand your point of view in terms of what you pay for a product. I think from Mick's standpoint it's a hard use knife meant to be used and abused.

LOL, they're BS'ing you hard. A $500 knife should be centered...by design, rofl.

Strider BS'ing?.....can't be. Not Mickey, no way. He's the pillar of truth, justice and the American way.

Truth be told, anyone who buys a $400-$500 pocket knife is lucky to get one with an off-centered blade. We all know that these are stronger than the ones with centered blades. I have proof. Just email me at letmebsyousomemore@morebs.com.

Look, centered blades and all this fit and finish garbage is really meant for girly men. As long as a knife is made of steel and can cut through bones and barbed wire, who cares? Besides, Striders are "hard use" knives so why center the dang thing anyway. They're just going to eventually get all bent up anyhow.

I'm not even sure why they bother putting the scales on straight...I mean what's up with that?

Out of about 8 Striders over the years, all were centered in my personal experience.

Years ago there was a high-end knife store in Dublin that carried a selection of both CRK and Strider. The guy that ran it
was cool and let me look at every Strider and Sebbie he had to pick the best one; all 3 SMFs had different centering and
lock-up while the CRK knives were perfect and identical. Guess which one I bought?
